Ukiha

Located just off the main road (easy to drive in and out of, and free parking), it’s a very peaceful and serene hotel. The tatami rooms were so spacious, clean, and had excellent views for the mountains and river. The staff were so lovely (especially Junko, who makes this such a welcoming space). And the location was great - not many shops nearby (very grateful there was a mini bar with beer in the room), but close to so many beautiful sites (shrines, rivers, waterfalls, etc).

Breakfast is served at set times from 7 to 8:30 am and dinner at 6 or 7 pm. This is fine, but I generally like to eat a bit later.

The place is an older style hotel. old doesn't mean bad in this scenario. It has an antique feel. The dinner service was great and you sit in a divided room so you can enjoy the dinner privately. The waitress that helped me during the server was extremely friendly. For the price, this property is a really great value. I was a solo traveler so i used the room by myself but the room was able to hold 4 people or more.

The property is not specified in the google maps and it can get very confused as there is another hotel/ryokan up the hill (which i climbed) that starts with "Ukiha". Just follow the booking.com map or search it in google and go to their website and look at the map. The walk from the train station is a bit far but the walk was very enjoyable

Ukiha is a happy place to stay. The owner and staff were generous and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. There was an elegance in every aspect. A very traditional Japanese experience for us. The food in our own dining area was excellent.
