Pearl Rest

This was, without a doubt, the worst experience I’ve had in my 15 years of using Booking.com. The property is falsely advertised as a Inn when, in reality, it is nothing more than a homestay. When I checked in, I informed the receptionist that I needed to leave early at 5:15 AM to catch my 6:15 AM train to Colombo. She assured me that the doors would be unlocked and that I could knock if there were any issues. However, this turned out to be completely false. At 5:15 AM, when I went downstairs, I discovered that the main gate was locked, trapping me inside. I knocked over 100 times for more than an hour, but no one responded. The hotel door was open, and the keys were inside, but that didn’t help—I was still stuck. Finally, an older man appeared, but instead of apologizing, he was incredibly rude and dismissive. He barely spoke English, and when I asked him to watch his tone, he showed no remorse. Frustrated, I told him, "If you don’t know proper English, at least treat guests with respect in your local language." He remained hostile. Because of this complete lack of professionalism, I missed my train and had to scramble for alternatives. When I warned him I’d report this to Booking.com, he arrogantly replied, "I don’t care about Booking.com—do whatever you want." This blatant disregard for guests is unacceptable. I strongly urge Booking.com to reconsider whether this property deserves to remain on their platform.

It was ok for 2 nights but the size of the room was very small for 2 people. It is wrong in the description. It would be nice to correct it so the guests know what to expect. There is a balcony but no chairs so I don't understand the point of having a balcony without chairs. We didn't want to be sitting in the small room so we were sitting outside on the terrace floor! Not very comfortable.

Quiet location.

Over priced for this room. Comparable rooms can be had at half the price. Small, tired furnishings, non ac room for the price of more spacious ac. Not sure about reviews of food and information, no such offerings. After sign in and key handover, no one about but youngsters sent out to collect the not negotiable fees.

Excellent home cooked food and very friendly helpful staff.
