"A suitable place for a couple of nights stay - and not an area for walking around at night e.g."

8.0

The hotel is in its own grounds and the best room (in which we stayed) had a direct view of the sea from the extensive bay windows. However those grounds are in the middle of a housing estate (rather like a castle in Scotland where we stayed) and there is still building work going on though there was no intrusive noise. The function/ballroom is beautiful (and still being finished) and the breakfast room is small and basic, but as it was never crowded it did not feel claustrophobic. The toilets for guests in the main hotel were immaculate. The staff were warm, friendly, extremely helpful and did seem to do all the different jobs in the hotel but someone was always around. The owner/developer is a bluff Geordie with a direct but very caring manner. The hotel does not serve evening meals.

These are late Victorian premises with high ceilings - Arts and Crafts originally. The rooms have a good and easy to understand heating system but because of the size and it being late autumn the room felt colder than we would have liked but one could turn it up. If you are concerned about Eco systems and careful use of heat as we were, then thicker curtaining and bedding would have been preferable. The Super king bed was very comfortable although attention needs to be paid to the quality and warmth of the bedding in the autumn/winter months. The room is sparsely furnished and, like the rest of the hotel, lacked detailing such as individual reading lights; wardrobe or hanging space and there were no drawers or desk lights. Our room had a quirky arrangement of hooks above the curtains, too high for small people to reach without a pole hook, where bridal/ball gowns could be hung but this is not really the atmosphere we wanted where all your clothing including your underwear could only be unpacked onto shelves. We like to put clothing away from dust and for privacy. There were bedside table tops but no drawers for, say, very personal items and jewellery. The breakfast, though described as fabulous, was basic, unimaginative and more the kind of thing one might expect in a modest cafe rather than the more extensive range one might expect in a hotel which describes itself as a wedding venue/function establishment. If full English is your thing then it would be adequate and plentiful. There was no choice even of smoked/unsmoked bacon and the eggs were very watery though well prepared. The coffee, however (very important!) was excellent. Cereals were of the supermarket packet variety. Importantly, though we had no problems, there is no car security except your own equipment and alarms and the hotel outside lights but there is plenty of parking within the hotel grounds and close to the hotel entrance.

"Ok for overnight stay"

Clean and comfortable. Great sea views. Parking available.

Felt a little unwelcoming for guests as room was freezing on arrival. There was a heater in the room which worked fine though. Breakfast room is tiny and basic. But breakfast was good.

Room was spacious, and warm. Cooked breakfast was lovely, fresh and we really enjoyed it

Unfortunately, the bunk bed double needs new mattress, springs were prominent i had to double over the duvet and sleep on top of it.. thankfully my sister doubled up with my mum in the double bed so they were far more comfy.
