We were met on arrival even though it was late. The communication with the hosts was good. This first floor apartment is very large and roughly half way between the bridge into Ortigia and the archaeological park (15 mins walking either way). The Interbus stop for the Catania airport bus is steps away (stop is called Corso Gelone 50). There were cleaning products provided as well as shower gel, shampoo, coffee, sugar, salt, oil and vinegar. On the whole the property was clean and tidy. There were also sufficient pans, glasses, crockery etc. for 4 of us. There is a bakery, butcher, fishmonger and well stocked small co-op in the road opposite. The aircon units double as heaters which was useful in February. We had a hire car and parking for free on the road outside is tricky when the shops are open. It gets better later in the evening when they close (8pm onwards). There is paid for parking available but its a short walk away and 20 euro for 24 hours. We had everything we needed for a short stay.

The apartment block and area feels a bit run down generally although it did feel safe. Looks like a structural problem in the block with nets in place to secure masonry. Some evidence of damp in the apartment (blown plaster). Single beds in bedroom 2 and 3 are narrow compared to standard UK singles but we did not find the mattresses uncomfortable. Linen and towels all a bit tired. Washing machine was not working but there is a launderette on the road just outside. Overall you get what you pay for and the apartment is good value for the size.

Incredible host who made fantastic suggestion for local places to eat and even went out of her way to book us a boat trip with a local captain. Very charming and accommodating allowing us to leave luggage on arrival and departure. Excellent would stay again and recommend to all
