Green Gables Country Inn

McGregor is a charming town, and Green Gables a picturesque old inn which is ideally situated on the upper edge of town to explore the surroundings. Sarel is a helpful and friendly host who gave great advice on restaurants in town and at wine farms in the surrounding area. We stayed in spacious suites in the old barn, and enjoyed breakfast on the stoep of the main building.

The location is great

I’ve stayed here on two previous occasions over the last 15years and it’s just very sad to see this establishment a shadow of of its former self. I understand it’s in the process of being sold so hopefully its former glory can be restored

Green Gables is in a fantastic position and has massive potential. It is for sale and hopefully someone will buy it who can make a success out of it.

Outside seating was dirty. Furniture round the pool was broken. No comfortable sitting areas. Breakfast choice was poor. The owner is affable but seems to have forgotten how to run a guest house.

Large thatched country house with old water mill. Very quaint in a lovely setting at the top of this equally quaint village. Wonderfully attentive host, good rooms, breakfast on the stoep with gorgeous views. What wasn’t to like??

Beautiful and clean accommodation in a quiet village. Sarel was a great host and made us feel welcome even before we arrived. Tasty breakfast was served.

Amazing space with an awesome host, always on hand, providing a tranquil getaway.

No particular issues.

Enjoyed Sarel advising lovely scenic routes and local places to visit. Easy access and quiet. Very comfortable accommodation.

Patio could do with some attention (cleaned patio furniture) and prettified for outdoor coffee mornings overlooking the mountains
