Great location, very beautiful an ideal stop off on our road trip . This was our second visit to this hotel, and we also wanted to revisit Mary Anne,s pub . Both businesses make a great holiday opportunity

"A slice of living history in a beautiful part of the world."

10.0

Sharon was a lovely host and the castle and grounds were spectacular, even in the rain😊. Felt like we had been transplanted onto the set of a BBC period drama but with all the modern day convenience tastefully added in the background. Although the Castle doesn’t cater for dinner, the recommendation of the local pub/restaurant (Mary Ann’s) a short walk away was excellent (fantastic fish).

"A charming, picturesque place to stay"

10.0

A picturesque setting, seamless check-in process, hospitable host, exceptional room, and delicious breakfast. Our stay was flawless and thoroughly enjoyable.

Note that the village offers limited dining options, so keep this in mind if you plan to eat dinner locally more than once.

"Repeat guest who will be coming back again and again."

This is a very special place run by very special people. It is an old manor house, located on the edge of the bay - it is a manor house castle. It has been run by the same family for 11 generations in the town (Castletownshed) which is named for the family. The site is extremely secure and quiet. It is filled with 16th and 17th century antiques and paintings. There are very few rooms (5? 6?), all but one of which views the water. Each one is unique and custom furnished. The complete breakfast is made for each customer separately and served in the old dining room, which has all the beauty of an old estate with water (bay) views. There is a small, self-service, honor bar located downstairs. The current generation operating it (Sharon and Justin) could not be more welcoming or helpful - Sharon is a delight as is the person serving breakfast (who has been there 10 years - sorry I forgot her name). The two of them make getting up in the morning a pleasure. The 90 acre grounds have walking trails and a tower dedicated to one of its former guest - Jonathan Swift. Within walking distance and just up the street is a truly fine restaurant - Mary Ann's (reservations usually needed). We have been coming here for years, and hope to return many times in the future. It is an old building with no elevator but can't be found anywhere else, but remember, it is an old building - don't expect an modern place. This is worth going out-of-the-way to be with these hosts and the others there to stay at The Castle.

Absolutely nothing - we love staying here.
