禅坊 靖寧 Zenbo Seinei

坂茂の設計による唯一無二の建造物に宿泊できること自体が貴重な経験。　ヨガと瞑想のクラスに参加したことが奏功したのか、夜は熟睡できました。　精進料理も非常に手の込んだもので、見て美しく、食べて美味しく、しかも満腹感がありました。　

自分の車のナビが古いせいで、ホテルにたどり着くのにやや苦労しました。四国方面から淡路島の一般道経由だったため、ホームページの案内だけでは不十分でした。　道中、看板などを一切出してないのは意図的なものでしょうか？

Dit is 1 van de mooiste plekken waar ik ooit ben verbleven. Het gebouw is een fantastisch ontwerp van architect Shigeru Ban. Alleen al van er rondlopen word je rustig. Het gebouw is zowel van buiten, als van binnen, als met de omgeving perfect in harmonie. Vriendelijk personeel en heel knap wat een diverse maaltijden de koks kunnen bereiden ook al maken ze geen gebruik van dierproducten, suiker, bloem, en olie. Heerlijke plek om een paar dagen volledig tot rust te komen.

Bij buiten zitten hoor je wel het verkeer dat redelijk dichtbij langs rijd, dat had ik me van tevoren iets anders voorgesteld.

I need to start first with just expressing that this is the best customer service I have ever experienced in my life. I'm from New York where we have extremely high standards for customer service and Zenbo Seinei went ABOVE AND BEYOND any expectations. I booked what I thought was a night at the hotel and they contacted me to tell me in fact it was not available. It is a retreat center and not a hotel although twice a month they do have overnight retreats. I was then stuck without a place to stay for that night on Awaji Island and in fact, I was coming just to photograph the retreat center for a project I am working on. They were like family and worried about me being alone on the island and pulled some strings to get me a suite at a neighboring luxury hotel for the night with dinner and breakfast. They next day they gave me a ride to the retreat center where I participated in a wellness retreat consisting of 90 minutes of mindful yoga, a vegan lunch by a star chef, and then a 30-minute meditation center. The food was the best meal I had since being in Japan for the past three months, the staff was unbelievably friendly and kind, the building was beautiful and the retreat was so restorative. I wish I could give more than 5-stars!
