Gasthaus Engel

This was a wonderful place. I recommend it highly. Be sure to have dinner, it was wonderful.

Room was very basic for the money. Meal in restaurant expensive and got ripped off for wine, we ordered a bottle of house white wine which on the menu had been around 26fr, finished one then my mate ordered another. When the bill came it was much more than expected and the waiter proceeded to tell us that we had ordered Gold Label wine which was 55fr per bottle, reluctantly paid and went to bed. Next morning on leaving I was asked to settle my restaurant bill which I then had to prove to them that I had paid they then said OK your account is zero. 2 days later I received a voicemail from the hotel saying that my friend had left the hotel without paying and they had charged my credit card with his as well as my stay. He had been given a receipt after paying his bill on the morning of departure but they couldn't find that so illegally took money from me. Eventually got it sorted out after many messages and send proof of payment. However they seem to be very lacking in trained staff and all blamed each other. I still can't see how they thought that it was OK to charge me for someone else's room which had been booked totally independently to mine. I might have not even known him but I was being held to ransom for his payment. (Which he had already paid).

Perfect for what we were after for the night travelling Switzerland. Staff were lovely and breakfast was good

Only had one towel and one pillow upon arrival, and even though quickly fixed up for the two of us, they didn’t have any spare towels for us so we had to use one. Bathroom was average.

Location was nice and close to the lake. Breakfast was really good. Staff was really nice. Clean and big room. Bathroom was a bit "old fashioned" but clean and usable. Free parking was really convenient.

The restaurant seems to be awesome, unfortunately we didn't pick the good dates and it was closed. We will have to come back :-) Otherwise, we suspect the room can be a bit noisy depending on other guest or if there's a lot of traffic, but we didn't had such issue during our stay.
