Gasthof Zum heiligen Nikolaus

The location is about the best thing it has going for it. It’s right on the Danube with a view to the water from the beer garden and many of the rooms. Rooms were very clean, always appreciated!

The lady running it, who is not German or Austrian native, was barely polite. And I speak fluent German and understand customs having lived there for 2 years. She wasn’t horrible but she made you feel like you were inconveniencing her. No shampoo in rooms, old beds, not a quiet hotel regarding insulation. It was a gorgeous day and my room was above some old guy smoking one cigarette after the other, with smoke drifting into my room. I couldn’t even open my window until he left hours later and it was stiflingly hot in there. Europeans still smoke more than Americans but it doesn’t make me like it even though I understand that. This was the guy that worked there and he could’ve smoked around the other side of the house instead of under the guest rooms. On the expensive side for an unrenovated hotel with shabby (but clean) rooms.
