Rose and Crown

The breakfast had no options, it was a Full English or nothing. Thankfully it was very good. We were offered a coffee and a tea but nothing else. There was no juice, no cereal, no fruit, no yogurt. These are standard in most B&Bs.

The staff didn't tell us anything: where to go for our morning breakfast; if we needed to book a time; or how to access our room if we returned after the pub had closed. Access to our room was from the outside rear of the building and up an external stairs, the lighting was poor which didn't help as the surface uneven. We were the only guests staying in the pub and when we had breakfast we were placed in the snug which was dark and uncomfortable. I suggest they seat B&B guests in the restaurant side of the pub that way they have more space and it is lighter. The table was set with only napkin and cutlery, not place mat, salt and pepper, etc. It felt like very last minute. The breakfast space would benefit from a deep clean. Our overall experience was very poor and the only saving grace was the quality of the cook breakfast which was excellent. As we were staying in a pub we did expect to have the normal pub sounds but we didn't expect the staff living in the pub to play loud music until after midnight. Our room looked nice and a little quirky, the floors were uneven and the door to the bathroom low but we like this. Unfortunately, when I tried to place my clothes in the wardrobe and drawers I found they were being used as a linen store. There was no place to put our clothes or bags. The bathroom was clean and the shower was easy to operate. The complementary toiletries were very poor: the hand lotion had already been used, the shower gel was not enough for one person to wash their hands, thankfully I brought my own. My towel was threadbare. Our overall experience was very poor. If they are intend to operate as a B&B, they need rethink their service and offerings as a B&B. Overall experience: not value for money.

Le pub est super sympa, très animé, joyeux, personnel adorable.

La chambre est typiquement anglaise ce qui est plutôt chouette, néanmoins pour moi à ce prix (138€ la nuit) elle pourrait être légèrement rénovée. Néanmoins nous avons bien dormi, c’est juste pour partager mon impression

Friendly staff, authentic old rambling country pub. Happy for me to store my cycle inside. Excellent full english breakfast. Lovely location down the hill from pretty Mayfield. Excellent walk-in spacious shower.

A little (very little) bit of traffic noise at the front. The bedroom window didn't close fully. The outdoor steps up to the bedrooms were a little slippery, so if a guest was unsteady on their feet that might be an issue. Old and rambling pub means you have to accept the floors aren't level and if you're six foot like me, you have to keep ducking your head to avoid banging it on the lintels :). At £120, it wasn't cheap... But not bad value.
