Hocheckhuette On Top of the Kitzbuehel Hahnenkamm Mountain

Perfect hut in the mountains if you want to hike. We stayed here during a multiday hike and were not dissapointed. Very friendly host. We received a free delicious schnaps on arrival. Very dog friendly as well. Very authentic mountain hut, reachable by foot or by cable car.

Dorm beds

I arrived after racing the VerticalUp run to a lovely welcome, food and prosecco. Followed by a real Apres hut party and a comfortable bed for the night. Perfect location a 2 minute walk from the top of the Streif.

The place is absolutely fantastic to meet people and to have a good time, on top of that you can always be first on the slopes. I absolutely loved the atmosphere with Michelle and Peter being absolutely fabulous hosts.

Nothing, I really mattered except that if you are alone at the end of the season, you better have a backup plan to have food 😀 but lessons learned next time I come in full season.

Food was amazing, wonderful staff, great parties and the best location!!!

No lounge, cold water in the sinks.

This hostel doesn’t make it clear that the ONLY access to the hostel is the Hahnenkam lift. This means that while it is ski in/out, guests are unable to enjoy Kitzbuhel (the ski town) after 1630 when the lift shuts down for the day. The hostel also doesn’t have any place to relax/read/lounge while waiting for dinner in the dining room. So it felt very isolating not being able to go to Kitzbuhel and only being able to sit in the dorm room after a day of skiing. In addition the hostel does not give clear directions as to how one should take his/her luggage to the hostel. I had to take all of my luggage (10 days worth plus skis) onto the lift then walk all of it down a steep ski run to the entrance. The hosts do have a ski mobile but aren’t quick to offer the use of it to help with linage.

I didn't even end up staying there because we could never confirm the actual room, or add another room as we requested. No one answers the phone, or email and even Booking.com could not reach them. Had no idea where to park, hours on lift to get there either Booked another place and stopped by there to check it out and ask for a refund. Over crowded ski dorm good maybe for kids. Mats on the floor side by side to sleep , wouldn't let my dog stay there. Was a dump.

The meals at this location are great. Breakfast is pretty standard European continental style breakfast. Dinner is a three course meal of local dishes. Everyone staying in the hostel that wants to eat all meat in the dining area allowing for great opportunities to meat other travelers. The vibe differs each night pending on how many people are there and the energy they bring. Music plays, volume goes up as people get into it. Food service takes about 2 hours from start to finish on the busiest of nights, much quicker with less guests staying. The staff will keep the music playing and drinks served as long as people want to keep going.

This hostel is atop the Hahnenkamm gondola which MOST nights of week stops uploading people at 1630 so plan your day accordingly. If you want to see the town of Kitzbühel. After 1630 you’re committed to staying at the hostel. Also, to get to the hostel it requires the purchase of a lift ticket, no free rides for anyone at any of the accommodations atop the gondola.
