Very friendly staff especially at breakfast.

The room was a little tired and two singles rather than 1 double.

"Absurdly LOUD room during band night, but otherwise a lovely place."

4.0

It could be a really, really nice B&B. Alas. The rooms are actually better than they look in the photos. They are spotlessly clean, and the staff are exceptionally kind. We stayed for two nights in two different rooms: first, the Harbour View room at the front, and then the twin room at the back. Both were comfortable and pleasantly warm (we stayed in January). The Harbour View room has a fascinating view of the harbour, which I really enjoyed. It also had a blackout curtain and an extra heater. The mattress in the Harbour View room was much softer than the one in the twin room. I preferred the latter, but both were comfortable. The ceiling is much lower in the twin room, but it didn’t bother us, even though we are both tall. Wi-Fi was noticeably better in the twin room at the back than in the Harbour View room at the front. Breakfast was generous and delicious — thank you, Isabelle!

Avoid, avoid, avoid the gig nights — especially if you’re staying in the Harbour View room. We booked it for the view, but had to move to the twin room for the second night. The band plays directly below the bed, and there is NO sound insulation. It felt like having MeatLoaf roaring Bat Out of Hell next to the bed until 11:30 pm. The pictures were vibrating on the walls. At first, we laughed at the sheer absurdity of the setup, but as the night wore on and the noise got louder, I seriously considered moving elsewhere in the middle of the night. This was not what we were prepared for after a 5 a.m. start. The room is simply unusable during band hours. Most disappointingly, when I went downstairs to check what time the music would finish, I expected to see a roaring crowd — but there were only four drunk girls dancing and a couple of people sitting at the bar. The twin room was much better. We could still hear the band on the second night, but the sound was more muted. Or possibly the Saturday band was playing mellower Britpop rather than hard rock. To add to the experience, the pub has not refunded us even the difference for moving into the cheaper room. They have not responded to communication. Both bands were good, btw. I just didn’t fancy them in my bedroom. Without the band nights, this would easily have been a 10.

"A fun, convivial place to stay! Thanks for welcoming us!"

10.0

The Swordfish Inn has a really great staff: Kim, Izzy, Nick, Jack and Jake were all really helpful. There were daily breakfasts downstairs, and we were able to hang out downstairs in the evening in the very convivial environment with the pub. The location was really excellent—near the busy fishing port and trails heading toward Mousehole as well as being very close to the Penzance waterfront.

The bed was a little soggy on one side and the showerhead could use repair, but otherwise, very nice!
