Kokonoe Machiya

Incredibly clean and well maintained guesthouse with a lovely host. It's very convenient. It keeps the traditional feel of the machiya while still being modern.

Very nice decoration, in general the host is concerned with people staying enjoying and seeing Kyoto, he can be quite charming

Quite far away from the city center, don't be rat-tled if you have to take a bus, also the host is quite concerned about any detail, could be more relaxed as most guests in a place like that are more calm travellers. It's not like that when the cat's away, the mice will play.

A 100-140 year old house that has been converted into an inn. Absolutely stunning craftsmanship. Every detail so well thought. Tony is an incredible host. Super friendly and inviting. He provided wonderful local recommendations for local food, sights, bike rental etc. I am humbled by the generosity I have been shown. I hope to return here again someday. A wonderful host who provided great recommendations for less touristy spots in Kyoto. The room and facilities were spotless, and the house has clearly been renovated with care and attention to detail. Although the neighborhood didn’t impress me at first, it quickly grew on me. It’s peaceful, with great local shops where I found some unique souvenirs, charming cafés, and a delicious bakery. A lovely, authentic area away from the crowds

The room was a little bit smaller than what I expected, but I slept well in it!

Everything! Thank you Toni for making my stay super comfortable, cosy and familiar. It was honestly the best week of my trip. Knowing that I would be coming back to a clean and inviting room everyday was the best feeling. Great recommendations and super informative host. The showers were perfect and I especially enjoyed the common space where I met other solo travellers.
