Guest House Mazais Ansis

Very beautiful interior, tasteful. A feeling of coziness. Peace and quiet despite the fact that the guesthouse is located near the highway. I definitely recommend staying and enjoying.

The place is located on the outskirts of the small village of Rubene, right by the beautiful lake Anša ezers. It’s a quiet spot, though a bit remote. However, it is fairly close to the city of Valmiera, and we chose to stay there during our trip since we couldn’t find a nice room in Valmiera, which is just a short drive away. The hotel itself is quite hidden—it’s located on the second floor of the famous Mazais Ancis restaurant/café, which is what this place is best known for. We didn’t even realize they had rooms available for overnight stays! However, the room was stylish and well-equipped. We stayed there during the winter, and it was clean and warm. Breakfast is available downstairs in the café, but with a separate entrance from the outside, which brings me to one downside...

The downside is that breakfast is not included, which is understandable. The hotel business seems more like a side venture here, and there probably aren’t many guests staying, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. However, because of this, the breakfast time isn’t very hotel-friendly—it starts at 11 AM. We wake up much earlier, and since there’s not much else to do until breakfast, we spent that time in the room. While that’s not a big issue, most people expect breakfast to be available from 6, 7, or 8 AM so they can eat and head out for the day. If an early breakfast is important to you, this might not be the best place. However, since breakfast isn’t included in the price anyway, you could always stay here and eat elsewhere. That said, given the location, there may not be many other options around!
