Penzion Amálka

A pretty set of two houses on the outskirts of town. The 20-min walk from the centre is lovely and picturesque, though really only walkable daytime, as there aren't enough street lamps along the way. Our room was a good size for two, neutrally and tastefully furnished, with anti-gnat window nets-:) There is a kettle, and a fridge. The staff offer a pickup from the station for a small fee. The breakfast is good (though a tad monotone if you stay longer). A nearby camping is another plus, as you can rent bikes there, and there is a pub.

It is difficult to find the reception/check-in desk, as there are no signs except for the restaurant, and no bell on the front door. It turns out that the Pension consists of two houses, and the check-in is at the rear of the second one. Not easy, particularly if arriving in pouring rain, as we did. - The security lights should come on sooner when approaching the Pension in the dark, particularly as there is no pavement along the road. - The staff are OK but very matter-of-fact; a bit of a friendlier and more welcoming attitude would make a huge difference. - It would be good to have curtains to draw for the night, as well as the current window blinds, as the blinds do not shield the windows when open.
