No vegan option for Sunday lunch, but that's being really picky.

The room was nothing like the photo's at all! Extremely dusty, the lamp was covered in dust there were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. I appreciate the age of the building but it's looking very neglected and they employ cleaners so there is no reason why the room shouldn't be spotless. The shower was built inside what looks like a cupboard in the bedroom not in the bathroom as advertised. You struggle to raise your arms above your head to wash your hair without bumping your elbows on the door and when that happens the door flings open and water splashes all over the bedroom carpet!! The shower is very temperamental too...it's either freezing, hot, a trickle or it actually stops mid shower! We ate there on the first night. The young lad who served us was prompt with the drink and food order. We'd ordered Guiness which was tasted sour which when we complained was replaced with lager at our request. The food was mediocre, ham, egg and chips. Then we sat, and waited and waited and waited...eventually the barmaid came to take our plates and asked if we wanted to pay now or add the meal to our room?? I was astounded and asked if they were closing? (It was only 8pm) she said no, but John (the owner) likes things 'all wrapped up' I mentioned that we hadn't ordered any desserts yet. Which she replied 'oh, you can have dessert if you want.' We declined and paid the bill and went next door to the Coach and Horses, much friendlier, cleaner and welcoming!!

GBFor an old country pub it was full of the atmosphere you’d expect. The menu was extensive and the food was great.
A little bit cranked and in need of decoration. All a bit drab but given the age of the building was probably as expected.
