"It's a pub, not a hotel"

3.0

Well. This place functions reasonably well as a pub and is clearly popular in that regard.

What this place isn't, and is not set up or managed to be , is a hotel. Everything from check in to check out is ramshackle and handled by junior staff who do their best but clearly have little training or guidance. It's not just the individual rooms, particularly the bathroom, that badly need a substantial upgrade and update, but the whole structure is rickety. The floors are uneven and floor boards creak. The walls are thin and every sound from outside travels. A stairwell to a floor above went through our room (5) meaning we heard every step up and down, and all movement above, including the bathroom. Doors all creak and hinges need oiling. The bathroom, as many other reviewers have pointed out, are woeful. Breakfast! Waiting for someone to show up so we could be let into a (cold) breakfast room we were told that the person with authority was busy in the office doing admin. Breakfast was served no earlier than 8.00am , what is that about?! The breakfast offer was woeful, croissants stale, muffins claggy, cereal selection for children, all seemed to be the cheapest they could get away with. We've stayed in other pubs with rooms which turned out to be owned by Greene King, they have shared similar problems, under invested and dated facilities, management overstretched and reliant on willing but undertrained staff, and no real idea of the basics of operating a hotel. The impression is that everything is being run on the tightest of margins.

"Wouldn’t stay again or recommend it"

4.0

Location was good for the purpose of our stay ..bed was very comfy although very small.

Car park full no space for staying guests. Old tired building … very dirty and unkempt. Rooms 9 and 10 were in the attic up a very steep windy staircase not suitable for people with mobility issues. Bathroom shower not suitable it if you were very tall. Rooms very old and dirty. Had to put kettle on floor to boil as lead was too short to reach the plug. 3 rooms very expensive at £375 plus we had to pay an extra £62 for breakfast …

"Fantastic and brilliant staff."

4.0

Staff were absolutely brilliant. We cannot emphasis how happy and jolly and accommodating they were especially Casper

The beds & food. No grab rails in the bath for older people using the shower. The hunters chicken was inedible.
