The Red Lion, Stretham

I asked by email if I could have a later check in. First I was told that it was fine and I finalized my booking. However, at the very last minute, I was told that there is an extra charge for later check in. It is not very fair.

Quiet location & good for where we needed to be. Car parking area was good.

When we arrived at approximately 5.30pm we asked about an evening meal, and were told that dinner was serviced from 6pm. At 7.50pm we went into the bar and told that it is only served from 6pm to 8pm so we had missed it. As for breakfast it was not available until 9am to 9.30am (1/2hr) it was served too late for our requirements. Clear indication for meal times. - Breakfast from 8am to 9;30am would have been better. Dinner - what dinner. The room was tired, and smelt very strongly of bleach when you opened the bathroom door. The bathroom was clean, accept for the vent which was very dusty. Paint work around the door was poorly finished. The bed was comfy, the TV was very small and the remove did not appear to work well so you had to get up and change the channel and turn it on and off from the TV. As for the hairdryer on the wall in the bedroom, it was covered in yellow and black hazard tape. Certainly did not wish to attempt to dry my hair with it.

My toilet was not tightly bolted to the floor which made for a few surprises!

Staff very friendly.

Rooms a bit basic and could be modernised.
