"Pleasant Village location"

4.0

Ability to have our dog stay. Location in Cotswolds. Bed comfortable

Major Problem - There was no hot water at all when we got up at 8 am. It meant neither of us were able to have a shower. The water was cold - not even luke warm. No staff available to report the problem to. We had breakfast at a local cafe and ironically discovered at 10am, when we collected our bags, hot water was available. We were also unable to use the TV - could not turn it on Tea kettle's short lead had to be plugged into an outlet at floor level. Not able to close small bathroom window above outside area where we could hear pub visitors talking close by outside Stairs access has small narrow treads We later had breakfast at the local tea room and ironically upon collecting our bags just prior to 10 am, we discovered hot water was then available.

"Quaint but not great..."

5.0

The host gave me a warm welcome to the property. The bedding and towels were clean and the bedroom was tidy. The bed was also very comfortable. There was a good selection of teas although they were not replenished during my stay. I daresay I could have asked for more if I hadn't also brought my own supplies.

The bedroom was small and needed a good uplift. The carpet was stained and paintwork to all windows needed a good clean. I accept that this is a quaint little period property, but a general deep clean would have made a world of difference. My worst problem was that late evening I discovered that the sink was blocked in the bathroom and after I had used it, there was a disgusting pungent smell which lingered during the night. It smelt toxic! In the morning I had to try clearing the blockage of hair and debris myself, because I couldn't stand the smell or use the sink. I reported it to the lady on duty who said she would get the maintenance man to sort it out as I advised that it needed some bleach or liquid sink unblocker to completely resolve the problem. I don't think this was done, although as I had made an impact to the blockage myself, there was a slight improvement overnight. The shower temperature fluctuated from perfect to freezing, not great! The location of the Crown is also on a busy little through road. The noise from the pub and outside died down by 23. 00 hrs but by 06.00 hrs I was woken by traffic up and down the street and the bin lorry. As there was no double glazing, it was noisy and sadly did not bode for a good nights sleep. Unfortunately, I wouldn't stay here again because of these reasons.
