Hunters Lodge Inn

Large room and large bathroom with huge bath. The breakfast's are very nice and plenty to choose from. Nice busy bar, we stayed Fri and Sat. Big car park at the rear. Park and ride near for Dartmouth. Great round Robin trip from Dartmouth, cruise to Totnes and bus to Paignton and train back to Dartmouth. Graham and Sue great Hosts. Unbelievably they are from where we live in Huddersfield and had pubs there too.

The shower is too small, you can't move when you're in it and we are small people.

Sue and Graham were extremely friendly and hospitable. The food was excellent, tasty and fresh, and the room had everything we needed without all the useless frippery you often find! The small kitchen was a bonus for washing up picnic things and there was also a sitting area with books and magazines to read.

The only downside was the steep steps and sill up into the bedroom area from the garden; a grab handle would be useful. There's a steep walk down from the car park but the pub is built on the side of a hill, so nothing to be done about that except maybe warn anyone who is not fully mobile. It wouldn't stop us staying there again.

Our stay was for 3 days. The host was friendly, attentive. They are good guides for the places to visit in the surroundings. We had a very tasty breakfast, with local products. Also, the main dishes where of the same high quality. Clean room with comfortable bed, nice big bathroom. A very relaxing and quiet village. We will definitely come back again. No view - small window with a huge kitchen extractor fan in front of it!! We always sleep with open windows and were looking forward to the quiet of the countryside and Devon fresh air - so was very dissapointed - constant faint whiff of cooking oil/kitchen smells. At least bathroom had a large window I could open to make it feel fresher. A "communal seating area" just outside our room - which meant if anyone sat there to chat it sounds like they're inside your room as walls not very soundproof - annoying.

The owners were lovely and very accommodating. The food was great.
