Pousada do Nondas

Excellent location, amazing breakfast and the owner was extremely friendly. Also made it super easy to book any kind of tours you want (river floats, etc.) because you can do everything through him, at fair prices.

The location is great, 3 mins drive outside Bom Jardim on a good dirt road (walkable in the day) The surroundings and view is beautiful. The rooms were clean and spacious and breakfast standard but tasty.

This is complicated to sum up. While the location and house is beautiful, it seemed to have degenerated somewhat, there was some rubbish in the garden and it wasn't particularly well maintained and old car parts etc strewn around. You could tell it had been beautiful at one point but seemed to not be looked after now. The pool wasn't clean, we used it anyway but water was murky and had dust all around, which was not cleaned away at any point during our stay. We found Nondas himself awkward. There was obviously a language issue however we overcame that everywhere else we stayed. Before we had even taken our bags out of the car after the long drive, he started selling us activities, which was a bit over whelming. On the other hand, I had tried to book activities beforehand on Whatsapp and his responses were very short and brash and not very helpful so we ended up booking with Pousada Bom Jardim in town, who were most helpful and informative. We could however accepted all of the above but the worst part of the stay was that we witnessed Nondas and the young boy who worked there kick and hit a cow, throw a rock at a dog and use a whip on a cow. I know treatment of animals in other countries is different but this was too much and not very pleasant. The dog was not Nonda's and entered the property but there would be other ways of scaring him off. The cows belonged to Nondas and just stood there, I could see no reason to have to kick, hit or whip it. This unfortunately put us off our stay entirely. I'm afraid we would not stay again or could recommend this place, despite having some positives about it.

The hosts have really created a small paradise. Beautiful garden with lots of flowers, a nice pool, a lovely dog and great breakfast. The owners help with everything including tours you can do in the area.

In the morning there were a few frogs that drowned in the pool overnight. Maybe installing a piece of wood/ plastic so the animals can leave the pool would be helpful.

A beautiful place with lots of different animals. New and clean apartments, very nice and helpful hosts, good breakfast. The perfect holiday farm.
