Hotel Rural El Convento

This is a great hotel located in a small quiet village on the border of Portugal and Spain. The hotel is build on an old monastery building, so there are those wonderfull vibes. The staff are nice and friendly people. It was a hot weekend and we had a problem with AC in our room, so they gave us a nicer room for free. Nice terrace in front of the building and nice swimming pool. Local restaurant is great too. Overall a great place to stop by and recharge your batteries.

Employees don't speak English, but hey, we realise we are in Spain, it is not a problem, just a nice to have thing. We managed to communicate with a translator, no problems.

Nice rural location, historic building. Pool was very needed in summer and well functioning but slightly small for the hotel size. Nice breakfast served at the table (but too much food - smaller quantities would be better). The hotel staff serving the breakfast was very kind and smiling.

Not enough sunbeds at the pool. Beds were not very comfortable. Facilities (especially rooms and their furniture) could be made more modern. Jacuzzi-shower was working badly. No 24h reception. Need to agree arrival time in advance. We did not like the on-site restaurant (we found restaurant staff not welcoming and not open to explain/engage and food was not to our taste). We recommend having meals in other places nearby (requires driving there).

Everything was good, the staff very friendly, the breakfast was different, but very good.

We loved this place for the greenery and the shaded patio areas especially in this high temperature heat! The staff are very attentive and helpful! MariCarmen is very sweet and Jose very knowledgeable. The restaurant is just a delight to have a beautiful comida or cena or just to hand out with tapas. Their breakfast is very fulfilling. They have a pool that ideal to cool down in this dreaded heat. Really enjoyed this place.

Great place for solo travelers or those on motorcycles as there is secure parking.

Spotlessly clean, fridge in room, air con, toiletries included, nice crisp linen and big towel. Good sized rooms with high ceilings with exposed beams. The decoration is full of charm. Breakfast was generous and included local specialities, such as 'migas' and serrano ham. The orange juice was freshly squashed.

Access to reception and rooms appears only possible via a flight of stairs, not too long, but could be problematic for guests with mobility issues. I do not know if there are rooms available on ground floor. I don’t think so. No lift.

The staff went out of their way to make us happy and comfortable. Breakfast was superb and dinner excellent. lovely peaceful location.

Lovely bedroom facilities and amazing dining area. It was set up for a couple of weddings and looked beautiful.

Didn't like just being plonked in the dining room, I was on a table in front of the dj preparing his lights. I felt I shouldn't have been there. The waiter wasn't very accommodating in the evening. He didn't want to make the effort to communicate. I asked if they had beef steak he didn't understand, I had to make a moo sound and tried Google translate but he wasn't interested. He said beef ok then just walked away with the menu so I didn't have a clue what was coming. I would have thought there would be some form of translation in part for food. The following morning was entirely different and a lovely man made every effort for the breakfast and was extremely polite and friendly.
