Meschkes Gasthaus Pension

A very nice host, very tasty food. Great location for malerweg hikers, good value for money. Highly recommended!

It was just a lovely small friendly hotel, been before, and enjoyed it so much, so I made a point of returning

The location is a bit remote but that works both ways

If you end up in a small Saxon town after a days walk in surrounding nature...you expect a place like Metschkes Gasthaus for your overnight stay ! To us, typical German style rural hotel. With staff who know how to make guests feel welcome ! Simple but clean room, adequate for an overnight stay (although the mattress was 50/50 to us, but that is subjective). Cosy bar / breakfast area (expect red/white blocked tablecloth & wooden furniture !). Nice outside terrace for a drink or diner (we had both and enjoyed it very much...nice drinks, honoust no nonsense food). If en route in the area, could be our choice again !

Not ment to criticise, but to give a tip: in many (small) hotels like Metschkes Gasthaus, it is still custom at breakfast to provide every table with its own selection of various varieties of bread, meats & cheeses on a platter. Often more than one can eat. We always wonder what happens with the left-overs. Are they thrown away ? In these times of sustainability, wouldn't it be more useful to offer these foods in the form of a small buffet, where one can choose what to eat ? Or to make guests fill in a form a day in advance to choose from a selection of things they can have for breakfast the next day ? Would make us feel better in the end !
