The Bank Hotel Dungog was pretty well spot on for what I needed. As an 'old school' hotel, don't expect ensuites or included breakfasts. Instead you'll get a simple room, a comfortable bed and hot, hot water in the shared bathroom shower. All located in a terrific, historic country town that is only 1hr from Newcastle and 2.5hrs from Sydney.

A small desk, wifi and a larger TV would have been great - but certainly no reason for not staying here!

Simple, clean accommodation in the heart of Dungog. Comfy beds and wonderful large verandah for breakfast.

This is my favorite country pub, great people lovely clean rooms and facilities. I can’t wait till my next stay.

Food at Bistro was well cooked but very bland.

Central location, staff were good when I checked in and dining room still open and prepared a meal for me even though they were starting to pack up.

I was awoken 3 times throughout the night by a faulty (?) fire alarm that was piercing and couldn’t be turned off - At 11am, 2am and again about 4am. An older woman that perhaps lived there with the help of a young man who was staying found a broom and despite the high dealings managed to reach it after 5-10 mins on each occasion. Needless to say I didn’t get much sleep at all which was dangerous given I had a long drive the next day. I checked out very early (after the 3rd fire alarm..) so didn’t see any staff but half expected someone to call me that day to apologise, however nobody did.
