Location. Food at the hotel was excellent 2 years ago. It's fantastic now. Chef knows how to cook big home style meals, which is what a hard days riding wants. Bar staff are excellent and friendly as well. I wish they had a Dorset at Maydena.

Our room was a bit noisy as it was close to the road and you could hear the trucks come through at night. Overall not a deal breaker. Bring ear plugs next time.

Perfect accomodation for our 4 day ride/stay. Nice simple breakfast and great chicken parmi. Barman had an incredible knowledge of the local whiskeys and was very welcoming and entertaining

The Dorset is a lovely old pub, I've been visiting it for years for drinks and dinner when in Derby, but had never stayed there until this trip. The accommodation here is basic, but perfectly adequate, and great value for the price. We stayed in a Queen bed room - the bed was comfortable and warm, we had plenty of wardrobe space, a table and chair, a heater, and shared toilets and showers just down the hall. Out the back is secure bike storage and laundry facilities. And some resident geese! Continental breakfast was a nice inclusion, too. I thought it might be noisy at night, but everyone seems to go to bed early in a mountain bike town, and the pub was closed and silent by around 8pm most nights, so no issues with noise keeping us awake.

Communication could have been better - apparently we should have received an email from the hotel, but we did not. This led to us almost being locked out on the first night when we came back from the sauna - the pub had already closed, and we had not been given the correct code to get in the back door! (The details posted in the room were out of date.) But luckily there was still a staff member there who could let us in, and when I mentioned this to the manager she said she would certainly follow up to make sure it didn't happen to other guests. Maybe just give them a call in advance if you book through this site but don't receive an email.

The ‘free’ breakfast was shocking! Milk out of date over 2 weeks and the kitchen was dirty
