Hotel Rheinfels

Das Hotel hat eine super Lage mit schönem Rheinblick. Es hat eine Ausstattung wie in einem Schloss mit Rittern und anderer diverser Deko. Die Zimmer waren sehr groß und hübsch.

Das hauseigene Restaurant war leider geschlossen und auch das Frühstück war eher klein gehalten. Aber es gab halt im Winter auch nur wenige Gäste. Im Sommer mit Terrasse direkt am Fluss muss es sehr schön sein. Parkmöglichkeiten gibt es leider keine.

Alles perfekt. Guter Cappuccino und feine Brötchen.

An in many ways charming historic hotel right on the Rhine. Our room on the second floor was the highlight - spacious, furnished with antiques and overlooking the river. The ancient staircase and corridors are great fun, with creaky floorboads and quirky old bits and pieces including a stuffed polar bear and suits of armour. The dining areas are pleasant enough, but not as full of antique Gemütlichkeit as you might expect from the age of the building. Our dinner of pike-perch and boiled potatoes was excellent, accompanied by local Swiss wine, and the included breakfast came with an offer of very good bacon and eggs. The only real downside was that one of the younger waitresses was abrupt and unsmiling and didn’t understand the basic courtesies of table service, eg reaching across one of us to remove a plate. There is some traffic noise from the bridge across the Rhine right next to the hotel - but rooms have air conditioning, so in theory you can keep the windows closed in warm weather. As always in Switzerland, the accommodation and food seemed about 20% more expensive than comparable places in neighbouring Germany, Austria and France. Parking for the hotel is a bit complicated but manageable. The parking places right next to the hotel are pay-parking and limited to two hours on one day, so inconvenient if you’re staying overnight and want to look around in the morning. But there’s a much bigger carpark which offers 24 hour availability (payment by Swiss Franc coins or via an app) ten minutes’ walk away through the old town. But I did wonder about whether Switzerland really wants foreign visitors. The parking machine instructions were only in German. I know that the same principle applies in the Angloworld, but most of Europe these days also offers English in such situations (including for non-German speaking Europeans). The ancient central square and main street of Stein am Rhein are said by Lonely Planet to be the most charming in Switzerland - and very photogenic they are. The huge (and free) Lindwurm Museum of middle-class life, also in the town centre, is fascinating and well worth a visit.

Upgrade to a room with river views was very nice. The room was large with comfy beds and plenty of hot water, a good breakfast was included. An interesting old building with antique furniture ,decor and curios in the hallways. About a ten minute walk from the station. in the hallways

Nothing to dislike.
