Hotel Hanseatic-garni

Please don't trust any of the old reviews: the owners (a lovely chinese couple) are the only remaining part of what this renovated hotel used to be. It's got new floors, new furniture, new bathrooms and new bedsheets, and it smells super good everywhere (they don't offer smoker rooms anymore). White walls and wooden beds, no ugly hotel decoration. Can't say about the breakfast because didn't try, but everything else went just fine for a very affordable price. I believe they invested a lot of money in the renovation works, and they definitely shouldn't suffer from their previous reputation.

nice looking and quiet in a good location very friendly people would help a little if they spoke more fluently english or frech since my chinese are bad and my german are not that good yet but we undestood each other nicely and without any doupt i would recomend them they were very very helpfull on all occasions very hospitable and smiling people

Well located 3 star city hotel in downtown Wuppertal. Clean and old fashioned furniture and design. Friendly reception service. W-Lan worked properly. It does not matter that no resto respectively no breakfast is offered. Nearby cafes and bakeries match all taste and budgets.

This place is old, warn out, and not clean. The tiles were coming off the floor in the bathroom. Overall the room looked and smelled like it hadn't been properly cleaned in years. Lights didn't work. Our "no smoking" room wreaked of cigarette smoke. We spent the night with the window open in order to deal with the smell, and just about froze to death. I can't say this is the worst place I have stayed, but it's close. There were 4 in our party and we took two rooms. The other room was just as bad. Our room didn't include breakfast.

The hotel looked like a trip back in time: It seemed as if nothing had been changed since the eigthies. At first the receptionist who checked me in could not understand that i didn't belong to a small group of people, who were standing right behind me to check in. After 5 minutes he understood that I had made a reservation for a single room. He asked if I wanted a smokers room. When I said yes, he started to shout that i could not smoke in the bed or on the (30 years old smelly) carpet (!?). He was quite rude so I wonder why he offers smokers rooms at all, if he doesn't like people to smoke in their rooms! The room smelled funny and was worn out, there was no ashtray, lights were broke, so was the remote control. Breakfast was manageable though, even if the bread rolls were a bit old.... The location was good, nearby the venue where the concert was taking place that I wanted to visit. The room price was moderate, but the next time I visit Wuppertal I'd rather pay a few Euros more to have a decent room and no fuzzy talk from the receptionist....
