Has an old world charm

To make my review honest and unbiased I would like to start with good things about this accommodation and the reasons why we have chosen this particular hotel for our stay in Cala D’or in Autumn. This was our second time in Cala D’or in a short period. We came here also in summer, 2023 and stayed at a quite big 4 star hotel in Felanitx. That time our stay was absolutely amazing. The only inconvenience was that it took us 15-20 minutes to get to the center and we wanted to be somewhere nearer to the sea. As for the Fowlers. We liked the idea of a small hotel with a history, located in the heart of Cala D’or yet situated on the calm side street according to the information. The hotel looks nice and has that authentic atmosphere with its own middle of the 20th century style. Hotel owners seem to be nice people who try to establish good relationships with their guests. Staff is friendly and room service is great. The bar doesn’t have food or snacks to offer but is well known for its cocktails. Every night there were visitors coming to relax on a beautiful terrace overlooking the Marina. We don’t drink alcohol so cannot say anything, but customers looked satisfied. The property is very close to the Marina indeed, the main street and the beach. The nearest one is Cala Petita which was our favorite. It has a bar and a shower area at the back of the beach. There’s also a footpath across the rocks, so we usually came quite far from the hustle and bustle and used the stairs of one of the closed villas as a place to relax, which was nice and the water was much cleaner there. We asked for beach towels in the hotel and received them immediately. As for breakfast, we had mixed feelings as there were some things which were very good (the variety of jams, bread, coffee and fresh orange juice were great, as well as granola, aged meat and sausages sliced looked good, we didn’t eat them as we are pescatarians) and there was some spoiled food served a couple of times (slimy fruits and moldy cheese). Everything was served in very small quantities, sometimes in 2-3 slices, so if you are a humble person you always get the feeling that you take the last bits. Therefore, every morning we had to ask the server to bring more. As for the calmness of the street I’ll tell you just one thing: sadly we didn’t sleep a single night well and without interruption, maybe we were unlucky…however we spent 6 nights there. In addition right below our balcony there were chairs used by people for smoking so we had to close the balcony often in order to prevent the smoke from coming inside. Unfortunately, this barely helped, as there is a strong draft in the room even when the balcony and the door are closed. The room was as we expected it to be. It was clean and moderately decorated. We didn’t use the main lighting: the two lamps on the wall behind the bed gave the light of two different colors: warm and cold - quirky. Thankfully, we had a side table lamp (although just one) so we used it instead and it made the room much cozier. We had a problem with the light in the corridor but it was fixed the next day. But the matrasses and bedding were not comfortable at all! Mattresses were cheap and wobbly, bedding was very hard and noisy. Honestly, we suffered through all our stay. To have just one room key was inconvenient for us as my husband had to return to the room to check his mail or to work with the computer and I stayed at the beach. The cherry on top was our check out from the hotel one day earlier of what we payed in advance! My husband was stressed and confused the dates so did the hotel owner, who worked as an administrator that day. We asked her to confirm our check out date and she confirmed it wrongly. In my opinion, it was shared responsibility, however they didn’t apologize and refused to refund one night stay. Of course, it was very stressful for us to search for a place to sleep in Palma and it cost us way more than we paid for Fowlers. We couldn't return to Cala D'or either as the taxi whould cost us more than the room in the Fowlers. So beware of a poor outdated booking system (I advise to double-check your dates). There is the war going on in our home country and in order to stay sane and balanced we learned to concentrate on good things and not to pay attention to some drawbacks, as there’s always some. At the same time, some vital essential things should correspond certain standards of living, such as food, sleep and sense of security. Which unfortunately wasn’t our case. I hope my detailed review will help to make right decision for everyone interested. Therefore, you can decide for yourself what you can accept and what is not for you.

Location excellent, being quite close to everything. Restaurants, beaches within walking distance. Lovely breakfast, plenty for us.

Nothing. For the price it’s a bargain.

Jennifer and Alexander are lovely and welcoming hosts. The hotel is more home like than a modern hotel. The view of the pine trees from our window. Very good Pina Coladas on the balcony at sunset looking at the marina. Breakfast was lovely thanks to Vanessa.

The shower in our room (4) is small but a very big sink was good. Some of the residents slammed the doors but that's not the owners fault.

A lovely week at Fowlers. Everything about it is wonderful. The rooms are lovely, very clean, comfortable, light. The hotel is in perfect location for beach and town. Jennifer and Alex are perfect hosts, friendly and very kind and helpful. Already planning our next visit.

Jennifer and Alex Fowler are such kind and wonderful hosts. The hospitality shown to us was second to none. We started the day with a continental breakfast with fresh orange juice , local meats and cheeses, farm fresh eggs and delicious breads. Sitting in the balcony overlooking Cala D’or was a treat each morning. Our room had an amazing balcony and view over cala D’or Harbour. Everything was within walking distance and the Fowlers recommend many beautiful restaurants during our stay. A pre or indeed post dinner drink from their well stocked bar was a must. Having broken my shoulder earlier in the year, I was lucky to be able to continue my physio in their small pool daily. Cannot recommend this quaint hotel any higher. We will definitely return.

The location was perfect, walking distance to everything, beach, shops, bars & restaurants ! The bar at the hotel was nice for a nightcap, peaceful and away from all the nightlife. The owners were very pleasant and helpful.
