"Lovely place, purfect location"

8.0

The room was clean, nicely decorated, plenty of room, lovely big bath 🛁. Staff were helpful and friendly. And castleton is absolutely stunning.

We were in room 8 in the annex, no problem until the guests above came in then you could hear every movement on the floor above.

"Good location."

9.0

The location in Castleton was very good and central, close to caves and we could walk around the area (avoiding the rain!) There was a car park behind the pub.

Most of the staff were not particularly friendly and / or weren't quite sure what they were doing. Dinner and breakfast were okay, nothing special same and most other pubs and inns in the area, but with barely average to poor service.

"Got off to a bad start but loved it in the end and would highly recommend!"

10.0

Manager Andrew was awesome! Waitress Ruby was the best! (Shame about her colleague though 😡)!!... Food was delicious!... Best Guinness I've had in a long time )&I drink a few)!!. Bed comfy👍🏻

My wife and I so did not appreciate being totally ignored by two young waitresses when we arrived for dinner one of them when asked, after being fed up of being ignored , "if we Just sit anywhere or what do we need to do "said?... She said with quiet a tone," this room is for bookings only"... So I asked where do I book and she just repeated" this room is for bookings only" . It was so unnecessary and so rude but thankfully Andrew understood our confusion and frustration and took us to a table and apologised for her unnecessary attitude! We think a little fridge in the room would be a nice touch as some people travel from place to place and we had some food and drinks that required refrigeration. We're from Australia and have never stayed in a room ever that hasn't had a fridge regardless of in Oz or the UK!

"Beautiful period hotel in fab location, let down by miserable staff"

8.0

The location was amazing and the room was lovely, also the breakfast and free parking.

All the staff seemed so miserable and disinterested, like they were REALLY unhappy??

"Overall, good."

7.0

Good breakfast, large room, clean.

Nobody cleaned our room after our second night. No drawers in room. Could hear noises from other areas, both music and voices. Ordering breakfast, unless you want exactly what’s on the menu, was slow and tortuous.

"Mixed Experience: Excellent Dinner Service but Disappointing Guest Care"

6.0

I recently stayed at this inn in the north of England and came away with mixed feelings about the experience. On arrival, I found the room to be moderately clean, but there were several areas that would benefit from greater attention to detail. The blinds were noticeably dirty, the carpet appeared overdue for a thorough clean, and the shower head had significant mineral buildup, likely due to the local hard water. While none of these issues were severe on their own, together they detracted from the overall standard of the room. What concerned me more was that the attic hatch in the room had been left open. Not everyone is familiar with attic-style rooms, and seeing an open hatch above the room can understandably raise questions or concerns. When I approached reception to ask about it, the male receptionist was dismissive and rude in his response, which left me feeling as though my concern was being trivialised rather than addressed. I also spoke with a more mature female member of staff, who did offer alternative options after I explained that I was uncomfortable in the room. However, the assistance felt more procedural than genuinely helpful or reassuring. Even if open attic hatches are common in some properties, it would be sensible to ensure they are secured or clearly explained to guests. This would provide peace of mind for visitors and could also reduce potential liability concerns for the hotel. The dining experience was a tale of two very different services. Dinner on the first evening was excellent. The restaurant staff were polite, professional, and accommodating throughout. Service was attentive, and the steak was cooked perfectly. It was genuinely one of the highlights of the stay. Unfortunately, lunch the following day was the complete opposite. After asking for a menu, I was directed to take a seat. I then waited for approximately an hour without anyone coming to take my order.
