We booked 2 rooms, the ones we were given both smelled strongly of damp and one of them had damp signs all the way down one wall. We asked for other rooms as there was no way we could stay in those. We were immediately given much better rooms with excellent facilities : great power shower and we appreciated the welcome tray had multiple types of teabags as well as providing soya milk (a nice touch). The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the historic "yee old" architecture and furniture and did not miss the corporate, sterile feel of more modern hotels. The rooms were very clean and the bathroom had lovely fluffy towels..

However, we were happy with the others we were then given. Whilst the appliances are great there is a need for redecoration as it is rather dated, scuffed and feels rather unloved and little shabby. This is a big shame as with not too much money and paint it could be so much more attractive and comfortable.

The staff were very polite and helpful. Bed was lovely clean and comfortable. Food was very good.

The room we were given had some leak damage which spoilt the look of our room.
