Cambus O' May Traditional Highland Hotel

It is a gorgeous old hotel with antiques adding character to every room.

We had issues with both Televisions in our room - neither was working. When we asked at the front desk if they could send someone up to connect them we were told there was no one in the hotel that could do that. We had arrived in the late afternoon and we're looking forward to a few hours of relaxing and catching up on news etc. when we KINDLY asked a second time the women at the front desk responded quite rudely and then said the TV's hadn't been working for some time? When we asked about moving us to another room she then said all the TV's in the hotel were not working. So, they either knew there was an issue or lied?? They said no compensation would be made. Honestly, it was the way this issue was handled, rudely and without any apology or understanding that was unacceptable. The breakfast did not include any hot items, the beds were very lumpy so overall for the price paid it was not acceptable.

Breakfast selection was excellent. Shower had good water pressure.

Room was far too hot with only one window that opened only slightly. Hotel was sometimes understaffed with only one person dealing with reception, serving at the bar, and taking orders for dinner, as well as serving it. Plastic table cloths made the dining space look very substandard.

It’s a very comfortable unique hotel with a small team. I loved how it isn’t corporate at all.

I do think more staff are needed at meal times.

I loved the vibe of the hotel, the view from my room, the quirky bathroom and walk-in shower, onsite parking. There were options to chill-out in the living area or outside. The bar was a nice inclusion in the stay for an evening drink. The breakfast was fantastic with lots of options. I had dinner twice and the meals were generous and very tasty.

I had a single room which meant no desk/chair which I like so I don't have to sit on my bed or in a very low armchair. This is more the function of the size of a single room but then travelling solo, who pays for double rooms. Just a small thing but I'd definitely return to this hotel.

Ideal location

The setting is stunning in itself, a beautiful otherworldly gem of a place in a world full of pristine Premier inns. The room we stayed in was perfect for our small family and doggie. The receptionist/host/barman/ waiter was an absolute gent who made us feel so so welcome and special. What a guy!
