Dolkhar Resort

We could not be more grateful to have chosen Dolkhar Resort as our base for exploring Ladakh in late September 2024. The overall experience was beyond perfect and really made a huge difference to our travel. We were so impressed by how everything was coherent and beautifully curated in such remote location. The property is really flawless and done in such good taste. Everything is sustainable without any compromise on the comfort and aesthetics. We loved every detail of it. Their lovely staff helped us arrange everything before coming and define the itineraries for both the local trips while staying in Leh as well as the few days trip to the more remote locations. Everyone was extremely kind and looked after us during our stay. We ate at Tsas restaurant everyday and tried probably all the dishes which were local or modern interpretation of the local cuisine and each time it was a beautiful experience. It was clear to us that the people behind Dolkhar have put a lot of heart and thought to make this place so special. Thank you so much to everyone at Dolkhar for this exceptional experience and making our travel so perfect and easy.

My stay at Dolkhar Resort was memorable, offering a blend of luxury and local charm. The villa I stayed in was spacious and beautifully incorporated Ladakhi influences, making the experience feel authentic and connected to the region. The food at Tsas restaurant was exceptional, creatively blending Ladakhi culinary influences, and the cocktails at the Terrace Bar were nothing short of superb, skillfully crafted with local ingredients. The resort’s sauna provided a nice, relaxing experience, and I also enjoyed a peaceful and rejuvenating yoga session. The front desk staff stood out for their excellent service, always pleasant and prompt, efficiently fulfilling every request I had. The resort’s lovely orchard and garden, dotted with apricot trees and frequented by birds like the Eurasian Magpie, created a serene environment that was a pleasure to explore. Additionally, Dolkhar’s location is ideal, being close to the popular attractions of Leh, making it convenient to explore the area. The day trek organized by the resort was enjoyable well-planned. Overall, I found the stay to offer great value for money.

Despite my overall satisfaction, a few areas detracted from the experience. The air conditioner in the villa was noisy, which slightly affected my comfort. Additionally, the heritage walk organized by the hotel was underwhelming and felt hurried, not living up to the expectations set by the resort’s otherwise well-curated offerings. There were also some issues with the facilities: the steam room was inoperative, and the sauna/spa was not cleaned after the previous guest, which made it unhygienic for me. A minor issue with the sink water tap arose but was later repaired. While I understand that the resort has only seven villas, the absence of a gym or pool was noticeable. Another downside was the sheer number of large houseflies in the outer dining area, which diminished the charm of dining amidst nature. Secondly, the service at Tsas restaurant was disappointing. One staff member questioned me rather rudely about my room number while I was on the terrace, which was surprising given that the restaurant and bar are also open to external guests. Later, the same staff member spoke to me impolitely, urging me to either eat in my villa or hurry up and place my entire order at once, half an hour before the last order. Another staff member, a gentleman dressed in dark clothing, had an unfriendly and almost hostile demeanor. When he brought the bill for in-room dining, he seemed displeased with the tip I left and departed abruptly without responding to my thanks. Additionally, the staff at the restaurant didn’t seem to believe in escorting guests to their tables, instead expecting them to find their own seats, which is not the custom at most hotels I’ve encountered. One exception was Tawang, who provided excellent service and was consistently polite and friendly. However, the overall service was disappointing enough that on my last night, I chose to dine out in town instead. Additionally, the service speed and food preparation time were painfully slow.
