Hotel am Galgenberg

A staff can't speak English.

Very nice single room with large table. Location close to the main road. It is very easy to reach the hotel from the higway in few minutes.

Reception was closed all the time during my stay. Check-in was made through envelope in the safe next to the front door. The stuff was in the Restaurant in the morning and cannot speak English. Moreover she behave like it is unexpected that I cannot speak German well. The parking place for the hotel is quite small and little bit hidden. There were no detailed instructions for parking in check-in envelope.

Excellent room with everything you need. Very clean and well equipped. Lovely restaurant meal and great breakfast. Good parking.

Breakfast buffet style, well organized and replenished when certain items ran out. Free car park behind the hotel. Very quiet during the night. The town center nicely renovated (20 min. walk)

The name, though old and of historic value, "Am Galgenberg" (on the mountain with the gallows")

Just went back form a trip to Gera, former DDR (East Germany). Hotel Am Galgenberg still breaths the atmosphere of that time: large hotel, functional, no decoration, old fashioned. Location is some 10 minutes form center (by car). No restaurants in neighborhood. The room was clean and situated at the back of the hotel. Bathroom and shower were very small. Bed was terrible (worst I ever slept in). Walls are rather thin so you can hear your neighbors (lucky I had quiet ones...). Breakfast is buffet and very basic. Car park is free and in front or back of the hotel. At the time I was there construction-works were done next door, so from 07.30 AM there was some noise from the construction-workers.

I had to stay there because of a car accident as it was near the highway. Hotel is a 30 min-walk uphill from city centre and from the train station. En suite rooms start around 45 €, are small and basic with small TV (only German channels) and AC. Breakfast is German style (cold cuts, cheese, boiled eggs) and included. There is no gym and swimming pool and no shops nearby (some groceries are a 10 min walk downhill). A taxi to the train station will set you back around 15 €.
