"Amazing view but difficult to get to and from. Beware - many stairs!"

7.0

The view from your room terrace is absolutely stunning, overlooking the ocean and the coast. One night, we had a lovely four-course meal cooked by the host. The view is incredible and breakfast on the terrace is beautiful.

Access to the property is very challenging and complicated. There are no direct roads leading to or near the accommodation, as it sits high on the hillside between the lower and upper coastal roads. Reaching it requires navigating many steep stairs. We arrived by ferry into Amalfi, where the port was chaotic and poorly signposted. After some confusion, we located a man in a fluorescent vest selling local bus tickets — important tip: make sure you buy an extra ticket for your return trip to the port. After waiting over an hour, we boarded a local bus toward Pogerola, travelling about 1.1 km along the coast to the Santa Caterina Hotel, a five-star property. There, we left our luggage with the Santa Caterina Hotel porter (who kindly stored them for us), and then faced a steep and strenuous climb up many stairs to reach Villa Rina. We also had to pay the Villa Rina porter €24 to bring our bags up from the hotel — and again for the return trip when we departed. When I say the stairs are steep, I really mean it — they are quite significant. Even though we are reasonably fit, the climb made it difficult to get to and from Amalfi Central. This was disappointing, as we had hoped to be able to do some sightseeing during the day, return for a rest, and then head back into town for dinner. Instead, after a full day out, we were too exhausted to make the round trip again. Realistically, it was only feasible to go up and down once per day. That said, this is the nature of the Amalfi Coast — beautiful, but built on steep hillsides. The view from our room was absolutely breathtaking, and our host, Rina, was incredibly welcoming and kind. However, despite her assurances that it’s just a “short 15-minute walk into town,” the steep climb made it feel far more demanding than that.

"Thank you to Rina for a pleasant stay!"

9.0

Spectacular views of Amalfi, nice and friendly host, freshly prepared meals, intimate setting with only a few rooms, meaning limited number of guests at any time. We especially appreciated knowing the ingredients were all sourced from the garden and market daily, including homemade jams, lemonade, and fruits and veggies. We felt it was a unique way to experience Amalfi compared to staying at a hotel. We were treated very well and personally as guests by Rina and her staff. Rina gave us great suggestions to help guide us during our time exploring Amalfi Coast. She speaks great English and we had no problems communicating. We didn’t have any issues with the many steps leading up to the property, albeit we visited in April when the weather is cooler. We suggest opting for the porter service on the way up (12 euros per bag). It’s very doable going down to carry the bags yourself. We chose to eat dinner at the Villa for all three nights during our stay, which is well worth the 40 euros pp, as you get many courses and about a bottle of wine plus limoncello. We would love to stay again when we return to Amalfi, and we plan to recommend Villa Rina to our friends and family.

We felt very comfortable during our stay, only one thing that could improve would be upgrading the bed. The queen was made up of two twin mattresses, which we didn’t expect. However, we still slept fine.

Rina is such a nice host. We feel very comfortable in her house, with her cat and dogs around. When we walked from bus stop to her house, we saw flowers, lemon groves on the way, we had a taste of hiking on the mountains of Amalfi coast. My 11 year old son walked without problem with his backpack. Rina prepared a delicious breakfast on her porch for us, with eggs from her own chickens. The view from the room balcony is spectacular, we can see Amalfi town, the sun rise and the moon. We also met the donkey postman! We had a great stay. Thanks Rina!

"Beautiful and relaxing. We would stay again!"

A really lovely quiet place to stay on the Amalfi coast. Beautiful views to enjoy with a lovely breakfast each morning. Rina made you feel so welcome and right at home.

There are a lot of steps so it may not suit everyone.

"Spectacular setting!"

8.0

The view from Villa Rina is spectacular and one we will never forget. Rina was very welcoming and gave us great information about the locality. Before my visit I was apprehensive about the 226 steps up to the villa mentioned in reviews, but soon got used to it and enjoyed the exercise. The short walk into Amalfi is easier and there are spectacular views all the way. (See photo of town through little church archway on walk.) What I loved most about staying here was being surrounded by nature and lemon trees and the amazing view!!! . A very special place!!

Dinner was great, but my appetite is small and I would love to have had an option of a one plate dinner option.

"The best place we have stayed at on our vacation in Italy."

10.0

We had a fabulous stay. The view from Villa Rina is spectacular and such a cute and romantic place to stay. Rina was a fabulous host making sure your every need was met. We had dinner there every night of our stay. It was top notch farm fresh food from Rina’s garden. With so many courses and of course great Italian wine and lemoncello. I felt like I was eating at a 5 star restaurant.

The view was worth the climb. Everyone was attentive and kind. Rina taught us a lot about her villa and our dinner featured many delights from her garden. The room was spacious, the balcony gorgeous. The highlight of our trip to Italy.
