Hotel Catedral

Terrasse mit Aussicht auf den Vorplatz der Kathedrale und die vielen Menschen in den sich kreuzenden Geschäftsstrassen, das Einkaufen "gleich um die Ecke", die grosse Auswahl an Restaurants, der nahe kleine Gemeindepark, die nahe Uferpromenade. Das Schönste: die Schatten spendenden uralten, riesigen Alleebäume, viele davon in voller Mai-Blüte.

1. Fürchterliche Zersiedelung der Landschaft rund um Funchal. Abenteuerliche Bauten kleben an Felsen und reiten auf Kämmen. 2. Funchal hat keinen zentralen "Busbahnhof". Eine Grossveranstaltung mit Strassensperrungen über Pfingsten brachte Verschiebungen der Abfahrtsorte und -Routen, was gerade mal den Taxifahrern zugute kam.

Location was excellent, beds comfortable and room spacious. Balcony lovely to look out , and sitting on the terrace , very cosy and quiet, perfect for relaxing city break , there was a fridge in the room, and lots of space on the wardrobe, staff was fabulous - very helpful

We found it hard to find at first, as the name over the entry isnt very clear - its a handwritten Hcathedral on the facade in between the shops - just facing the actual Cathedral. It's a little outdated, but we didn't mind that, the shower is in the bath with a curtin and the handle had to be put back in place as kept falling , but shower itself was good and strong when it stayed in place, the breakfast was ok - typical continental with some scrambled eggs , so something to pick on for anyone , there was nothing we didn't like really

Nous avons passé 2 nuits formidables dans cet hébergement paisible et joliment décoré. Le couple d'hôtes est adorable, avec un sens de l'accueil exceptionnel : toujours aux petits soins tout en restant très discrets. Le petit-déjeuner était incroyable – copieux, composé uniquement de produits frais et locaux d'excellente qualité. L'endroit est bien équipé, avec café et thé disponibles en permanence. Une expérience à renouveler absolument ! 10/10

Superb location. Good sized room (superior with balcony), very clean, comfortable beds. Good breakfast.

The entrance is hard to locate, especially when driving - could do with better directions. The same is true for the car park. Both require much negotiation around Funchal's one-way roads.
