"Between the lack of parking, unbearable heat, noise, poor cleanliness, and dismissive customer service, we had an awful"

2.0

Lovely location.

My partner and I stayed at The Swan Hotel in Wells last night, and unfortunately, it was one of the worst hotel experiences we have had. The hotel website stated that free private parking was available, but when we arrived, there were no spaces at all. Every parking space had been reserved because of a car event. This should have been communicated in advance, especially as parking was one of the reasons we chose this hotel. Our room was also in a very isolated location, facing a busy road. There was a lot of shouting outside, and buses passed throughout the night, creating constant noise. We barely slept. It was 34°C that day, and the heat inside the room was unbearable. There was a fan, but it made no difference at all in those temperatures. The room retained the heat all night and felt extremely uncomfortable. To make matters worse, when we entered the room, there was a used washcloth left in the sink. The room also had an unpleasant smell, and the overall cleanliness was questionable. We went to reception to report this, but the only response we received was, “Would you like me to have the room double-checked?” There was no apology, no empathy, and no attempt to resolve the situation. That immediately set the tone for the rest of our stay. In the morning, we discovered that one of the supposedly clean towels was covered in stains.

"Will never stay there again"

4.0

The surroundings.

Breakfast was appalling, the evening meal was poor and the hotel itself is overpriced.

"Loved this property in Wells"

10.0

A great property in the lovely small city of Wells. We had a room all the way at the top, with a STUNNING picture frame view of the Wells cathedral. The room was large by UK standards and felt plush and well-appointed. There is a car park but it fills up late in the day. The staff helped us to "rig up" a space for the first night before transferring to the car park. There is a lobby area which sometimes serves as a serving area for the restaurant. It's quite a nice space. We really liked it here and it makes a great base in Somerset.

Nothing for us to fault. Note that the car park might fill up - you can discuss your options with the staff if that happens.

"Lovely hotel with so much potential but in need of some"

5.0

Location is fantastic, staff are wonderful, breakfast was good.

Dog hairs on sofa and carpet. Robes were supplied but had stains around the collar. Springs sticking out of the side of the mattress. Parking is limited, whilst we were aware of this when we booked, we felt annoyed to find that half of the car park had been reserved for members of the Jaguar enthusiast club, meaning we had to park a fair walk away, in the rain, with a baby.

"A lovely hotel"

9.0

The team who work here are lovely and each time I have stayed they have been very helpful. Its a comfortable hotel and central to all you could possibly need or want, it has charm and feels welcoming

I stayed in the Cathedral Suite, its looking a little tired in the bathroom now and some windows seem to be painted in the living room area so we couldn't open them and the others were a little stiff to open, I love this room and the views are great, I hoping before I stay again that this room has a little face-lift , this isn't a complaint just an observation and the fact I would stay again says a lot.
