Absolutely nothing 😢

As soon as we entered we knew it wasn’t going to be good the place is filthy carpets walls staff wearing jackets and hats because of the cold -7 outside I could see my breath in the room radiator just warm also went out when pub shut, had to sleep with clothes on, beds broken headboard hanging off walls all grime bedding all grime everything in room had dirty marks, the shower enclosure just wasn’t habitable the whole place is needing knocked down worst I’ve been in by far

Everithing was old and dirty. The room was awfull smelling and dirty. The facilities were bad and dirty. It was a problem to get something to eat. The personel was unfriendly

The Aberdeen Arms is at one end of the village square in the centre of Tarland. From the front and sidesit looks nice. You walk into the front entrance and see the bar which looks tidy and you are greeted by the daughter of the owner who immediately knew my name and had my booking information to hand. This was a nice touch. There are menus on every table and it looks comfortable. I spent an excellent couple of evening chatting with other guests in front of an open fire. There is a small range of assorted bottle and cask beers along with an assortment of whiskies, gins and soft drinks.

Read the good before you read the bad: Sadly for everything that was good, the truth is that it is a run down hotel that a family is doing its best to keep running. Our room, off to one side away from the main corridors; smelled, it clearly hadn't been aired for sometime. The shower tray didn't empty and the beds weren't that comfortable, the floor in the wardrobe was split. When I went down to ask about a change of room there was a discussion going on about rooms having been booked out at all and if this was the case then perhaps they shouldn't be taking bookings. What annoyed me is this; With some solid investment and work, this could be a serious rival to the four star Commercial Hotel at the other end of the square, but until that happens, I wouldn't recommend the Aberdeen Arms for more than a beer and basic burgers.

Centrally located in Tarland, nice view over the square.

No hot water in the shower and no staff around to ask about it, crack in the window and a general musty smell to the place, needs an overhaul and some life injected into it. Requested a refund for the lack of hot water which I feel is reasonable however staff replied saying I was wrong and declined the refund.

Not a lot. But the beds were comfortable.

Cleanliness. Clothes rail above the microwave. Room very cramped.
