GUEST HOUSE HERMES Contactless Self Checkin

Guesthouse Hermes provides affordable, basic accommodation in the pleasant Höngg district, of the expensive city of Zürich. It offers convenient access to public transit into Zürich Hauptbahnhof in one direction and the Swiss Life Arena in the other direction. Höngg has a good selection of convenience stores and bistros, and Petr’s Bakery where a very talented young baker makes delicious cinnamon buns – must try if you stay in the area. The guesthouse is well-maintained, with small, basic rooms that are clean and tidy with comfortable beds. The kitchen has plenty of equipment, pots and pans.

Not a day passed during my stay when I didn’t return to find someone stranded outside saying they hadn’t received a door code to get their room key and that the contact number was not being answered. All I would say is ignore where the information you are given says the code comes in an email, my experience is that at 3pm local time the code to get the key appears as a message on the Booking.com App or website, providing you’ve sent the documentation required. It’s a poor system that clearly stresses people to the max! The place is noisy with little or no soundproofing, all the floors creak when guests move around at night and the rooms facing onto the road get tram noise and vibration both late and early every day. The shower on the top floor is too cramped and you can’t stand up in it because of the low ceiling height.
