Masseria Fortificata Lo Zafferaneto

Beautiful “fortress” hotel, rooms decorated very authentically, amazing hosts who gave great tips for things to see. I asked Irene, if i can find massage in the area, she organized a therapist, who arrived to the hotel (70€) and helped me with my back pains. The restaurant with nice food, starting to serve it a little late for my taste (8 pm), but it’s Italy.

The bed was not that comfortable, the blanket had traces of blood on it. A little dark in the rooms, but in summer it’s probably a benefit in Sicily

Lovely, family-run, quiet and classy spot. Very friendly and flexible service. We interrupted their family eating dinner at one point, looking for a coffee, and the lady of the house said "No problem, no problem... tell me ANYTHING" which was the cutest and also a good summary of the service :-) We were in rooms 1 and 2; both clean and spacious and comfy; a little quirky and creaky and random stairs, doors and shutters... all the stuff that made it special. The food was the best we had during our week in Sicily; all the more fun because we didn't have to go anywhere for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. (Note: There *isn't* anywhere to go... but if there had been we still would have stayed put because it was too wonderful to leave). Don't expect a "cheap" meal; it's a quality restaurant and the prices are reasonable and appropriate for what you get. Pro tip: ORDER THE ORANGE AND ONION SALAD. Grassy area around a little pool with a few lounge chairs, nothing to see but hills and cactus and a few little lizards. If you prefer to visit a friend than stay in a hotel, you will love this. In this case, a friend with good taste who lives in a very old authentic Sicilian house and happens to be an amazing chef :-)

We thought the pool was open but it was too early in the season (April); maybe check with the owners before you go if the pool is important to you. We had a great time anyway but if we were staying for longer that would have been disappointing (we were traveling with a kiddo).

This is a lovely countryside hotel with extraordinary good service.

Pool Could have been cleaned before arrival at the property, but as off-season I guess that’s why.

A tasteful old farmhouse with its own restaurant way out in the country & well off the beaten track. All the staff were so helpful (and encouraging of attempts to speak Italian). Lovely to relax on terrace and veranda. Thank you!

location was peaceful and beautiful - abundant views, beautiful trees and flowers- the staff extremely friendly and Alessandros cooking was absolutely delicious! The breakfasts with fresh ricotta, local honey and home made bread was lovely. a gem of a place to stay
