The room was very spacious and it was very clean and all of the appliances worked as expected. Toilet paper and towels were provided as expected.

There is a credibility gap. This hotel's name is all in Arabic and it may very well be the case that squatter potties are the norm in Saudi Arabia. The squatter did have a water tank and was flushable and can be considered to be a toilet, however, for most travelers, the expectation is to have a western toilet provided. The basic room that we reserved came with a toilet, but this room had a squatter potty toilet, not a western toilet. They offered to allow me to cancel the existing reservation and upgrade for 50% more to a room having a western toilet. Since their name was entirely in Arabic and since squatter toilets are more common in Saudi Arabia, they could not be accused of failing to uphold their part of the bargain. I believe that everything was orchestrated and that they were hoping for me to agree to pay an additional 50% in order to upgrade the room to a western toilet. It was a game of chicken, but we didn't blink and took the room that we had reserved. Other than the squatter toilet, the room was very good. The room did have very eccentric lighting, but other than that it was good. It was very clean.
