Sleeping Elephant Beach Resort

We had a fantastic week at the Sleeping Elephant Resort, a family of 5 in one villa and one bungalow. The accommodation is new, very clean and really spacious. The feel is of a small, high quality resort that’s secluded, with the gardens providing privacy and a beautiful setting. The beach is incredibly picturesque and we pretty much had it to ourselves. We ate at the restaurant for most meals and the food was great. The local curry dishes were the highlight. There are a number of other restaurants nearby along the beach. Above all though what made the stay so special was the service and attentiveness. John and Adela were incredibly helpful and booked us transport, a safari and trips to Ella, the bird sanctuary at Hambantota and to Hiriketiya beach and turtle beach at Dikwella on our way back to Galle. All of the trips were excellent and we had a perfect mix of relaxation and experiences for the kids and adults. Every member of staff was really welcoming and helpful. We’d absolutely recommend the Sleeping Elephant.

Hôtel de luxe intimiste, situé au bord d’une belle plage propre et peu construite, proposant des bungalows très confortables et une piscine impeccable. Une délicieuse parenthèse propice à la détente et une expérience vraiment inoubliable. John et sa compagne prennent soin avec beaucoup de délicatesse et de bienveillance de leurs hôtes.

Beaucoup de chiens errants dans les environs, comme souvent au Sri Lanka. Très bons petits déjeuners mais plats du restaurant à améliorer.

Clean, spacious and good design. John, Adela and team are very welcoming and friendly. Stunning location, picture postcard tropical sunsets and sunrises with good café options for local food close-by. Good suggestions for local attractions and helpful drivers.

Direkt am Strand, sehr sauber, ruhig, idyllisch. Ein kleines Paradies!

Heerlijk verblijf aan zee waar we volledig tot rust kwamen. Super attente en behulpzame gastheer en -vrouw. Het eten werd vers klaargemaakt waardoor het wel wat langer wachten was.

De golven waren te groot, waardoor het gevaarlijk was om te zwemmen in zee.

Tutto perfetto, in particolare l’host, ha fatto di tutto per permetterci un soggiorno piacevole e senza stress. Ha prenotato per noi transfer e motorini a noleggio e ci ha anche prestato della moneta locale. È presente anche un ristorante interno in cui abbiamo cenato ed era tutto perfetto, in linea con gli standard europei. Colazione buonissima alla carta. Il posto è come si vede in foto, direttamente sulla spiaggia, tanto che nella notte si può sentire il rumore del mare!

This resort is for those who are looking for a remote refuge surrounded by nothing but the ocean and lush vegetation. A set of tastefully decorated bungalows is operated by the friendliest people I have ever met during my travels. This is for those looking for a true human touch experience not those who look for sterile spotless formal service of international hotel chains. But don't get me wrong, the result is clean and offers good quality of service in a relaxed and friendly manner.

We came here to relax — and got much more than we hoped for. Sleeping Elephant Beach Resort is a small boutique hotel with brand new modern bungalows and villas, just 70 meters from the Indian Ocean. The view from the immaculately clean pool is unforgettable – waves crashing, palms swaying, pure nature all around. The hospitality is five-star. Owners Monika, Jarda and Libor treat every guest like family. They’re always around, ready to help or just chat over a fresh coconut. And the food? Local, fresh and truly amazing. Highlights for us: the coconut milk soup, classic rice and curry, and a grilled tuna steak that beats many 5-star restaurants. We loved the peaceful setting, with barely any tourists – just ocean, nature, and serenity. If you’re looking for a relaxing beach stay away from the crowds, this is the place.
