Sleeping Elephant Beach Resort

A very beautiful place for a relaxing holiday. It is immediately clear that the owners are Europeans. Everything is very clean, renovated, very clean pool. The hosts are very friendly - they will help and advise you on all questions. In the hotel restaurant, you can finally get non-spicy food. The beach is very wide and clean, but the waves will not allow swimming with children.

Waves to big for a children’s, but really good swimming pool

The bungalow was clean, comfortable and offered a great view. Pool was most welcome. Staff were great - particularly Thila and restaurant staff who were so friendly and helpful. The owners - Monika and her husband- were lovely and appeared genuine in their efforts to ensure we had the best of stays.

The price of having a deserted beach location is that the hotel is pretty remote. About 20 minutes in tuk-tuk from Tangalle. Food is very pricey. Payment in cash with prices in Euros or dollars, which was confusing.

Everything! Super attentive and caring hosts have created a little paradise gem here. Worthy of five star rating+ the SE family make you feel very special indeed. We look forward to returning next year.

We spent a lot of time researching hotels and accommodation along the south coast of Sri Lanka. We wanted to find somewhere that was clean and comfortable by western standards, that had a bar and restaurant, had a swimming pool and was on the beach. We found all of this and more at the Sleeping Elephant with a superb team looking after us under the friendly eye of owners Jaroslav and Monika. We didn't want to be in a busy area, tick, we didn't want crowds, tick, we didn't want nightlife and late bars, tick, we wanted wild and relatively quiet beaches with accessible restaurant/bars along the beach, tick. We got everything we wanted there, being in a very comfortable and spacious villa in a small resort where you get hands on hospitality without people being overbearing. The food is really good and there's a good choice there and on the drinks menu. While we were there we saw a mixture of families and couples and all seemed to be really happy with their choice to stay here. We saw turtles laying eggs nearby in a managed conservation beach, saw masses of wildlife in and around the resort (monkeys, eagles, monitors) and felt so safe and comfortable for the entire time. Thanks so much Jaroslav, Monika and team, it was our first time in Sri Lanka and our first stop and you made it a dream start in a beautiful country.

Struggle to think what might be better, it really is excellent

The Best place for relax for all family. Good acomodation, cleanliness, towels, comfortable beds. A very nice and tastefully meels, as work of art. A pool inside the garden, masssage for good price and time.

Fantastic new clean resort with friendly owners, pleasant stuff and excellent cuisine. I appreciate excellent massage just after coming and lot of variable activities. The villa was spacious, the ocean nearby. I sure come back soon again. One of my the best stay.

It was spacious clean and build with great and wonderful materials .The breakfast was wonderfull and absolutely more than enough .The pool was great and very clean.The owners and personal where very friendly .Also food was excellent! The area is nice and quite so perfect for relaxing.I can recommend this accomodation right by the ocean to everyone.

Fantastic villa! It was spacious clean and build with great and wonderfull materials. The villa was bigger then expected. The breakfast was wonderfull and absolutely more then enough. The pool was great and very clean. The owners and the personal where very friendly. The area is nice and quite so perfect for some relaxing. Within walking distance there are several nice restaurants.

The food at the location is a bit more expensive, but when je have a small walk you have several Sri Lankan restaurants. The WiFi is ok but weak in the villa.

This is such a nice and modern little resort with a beautiful and almost empty beach, you can’t ask for more. Perfect place to wind down and just enjoy the time here. Very nice owners, friendly staff, fantastic kitchen and the villa is just a dream. We’ve had five relaxing days here and would highly recommend the Sleeping Elephant. A lot of effort as gone into making this place so beautiful. 5/5 for this gem!!!
