Sundara by Mosvold

Sandy beach with good entry into the water. Only few rooms, cozy and uncrowded.

Poor soundproofing of rooms - different noises from external unit of the air conditioner and aeration system for a fish pool. The safe deposit in the room was not attached/screwed to the wall or wardrobe. Given that it is small and light, it could be easily picked up with one hand and carried out of the room. Immediately after check-out, the staff asked us when we were going to vacate the sun-beds because they were limited in number and were for guests only.

Die Lage am einsamen Strand von Balapitiya war unglaublich schön! Das Frühstück war sensationell sowie das Abendessen à la carte. Das gesamte Personal war aussergewöhnlich zuvorkommend und hilfsbereit. Wir erhielten super Empfehlungen für Ausflüge etc. Es war einfach ein perfekter Aufenthalt im Sundara by Mosvold und unser absolutes Highlight auf unserer Sri Lanka Reise!

We loved the beautiful villa, the large comfortable rooms, the privacy of the secluded location with the garden, the pool and the beach front to relax and enjoy. The food was amazing, the staff was extremely friendly and interacting in a very friendly and respective manner. We would immediately go there again and stay for a couple of nights. The beach is also beautiful and largely undeveloped.

The only thing we didn't enjoy had nothing to do with the hotel, but more the surroundings. There is no alternative restaurant or bar by this beach. You would have to drive somewhere.

Geweldige kamer, er was zelfs een bubbelbad die niet op booking stond aangegeven. Het personeel is erg professioneel en de chef kok kan fantastisch goed koken. Ze doen erg hun best het naar je zin te maken. Voor onze laatste avond hadden ze zelfs de tafel extra romantisch opgemaakt.

Taxi service is erg aan de prijs, is meer een westerse prijs, en kan zelf veel goedkoper georganiseerd worden (wij hadden voor de helft van de prijs)

Small boutique hotel in a stunning secluded beachfront location, quality accommodation with high levels of customer service and privacy respected. The beach is amazing, swimming outside the hotel is possible if waves are small, otherwise it’s just a short walk to a calmer spot. We stayed in the villa with private pool which is lovely. The breakfast and dinner options are great and include Asian and international choices. It’s a perfect place for a relaxing few days, away from it all. A memorable end to our Sri Lanka trip!

Отель похож на большой частный объект. Входная группа, основное помещение - зона встречи гостей очень красивые. Мы отдыхали в отдельностоящем номере со своим выходом на лужайку, террасой со столом и креслами с прямым видом на океан. Номер просторный в классическом стиле с тропическим душем. Он здесь такой один, и мы очень довольны, что выбрали именно его. Прямо на нашей террасе мы завтракали, обедали и ужинали. Никаких ограждений между территорией отеля и пляжем нет, что тоже добавляет ощущение полного слияния с природой. Вокруг птицы, пальмовые белки, мангусты пробегали. Пляж небольшой, но погулять утром вполне достаточно. На лужайке отеля и у бассейна тоже комфортно и уютно. Бухта полностью в распоряжении гостей отеля, больше мы туристов не видели ( наверное, в бухте только этот отель). В самом отеле номеров немного и всего 8-10 гостей. Зато наблюдали как местные жители сетями ловили рыбу, это было интересно. Слева в бухте много лодок местных жителей. Купаться в океане сложно из-за волн, поэтому мы просто гуляли вдоль воды. Работающие там люди - милые, улыбчивые и внимательные. Спасибо за поздравление с днем рождения! Спасибо, что у нас получилось отдохнуть на территории отеля до вылета, который был вечером! В меню есть хорошие мясные блюда, каша - более привычные нам. Все вкусно готовят! Приятно, что три последних дня отпуска на острове мы провели именно здесь! В последнюю ночь черепаха прямо напротив отеля на пляже отложила яйца, кому-то повезет увидеть как черепашата отправляются в океан 😌

Настроение, которое я получила в этом отеле, сгладило мелкие неудобства.

The staff was friendly.

We specifically booked a room with a balcony on Booking.com. Upon arrival, we were given a ground-floor room with a small patio instead – not what we selected nor paid for. Although the manager promised to clarify the issue with the head office and update us, we never received any proactive communication. We stayed the first night as we had no alternative accommodation, but we were far from satisfied with the room: 1. It did not match our booking. 2. The room was dark, noticeably small (likely under 30 sqm, our booking was for a 40sqm room), and very noisy due to its location right next to the lobby and hallway. We constantly heard guests and staff talking, footsteps, doors, and even music until 9 PM. Mosvold advertised soundproof rooms, which is not the case! 3. There was a persistent musty smell. 4. The entire property appears much more spacious online than it really is. The pool is quite small and the layout feels cramped, offering little privacy. When we decided to check out the next morning, the manager agreed to refund the remaining three nights after consulting with the head office. He assured us that we would be contacted the same day to arrange the refund, however, no one ever called. Booking.com informed us that the hotel also did not respond to their inquiries. In the end, we paid €800 for a service we did not receive - this is extremely dishonest! Booking.com did not provide much assistance either. We cannot recommend Mosvold, it does not meet the standards of a 5-star hotel in any way. For this price range, there are much better options available and the lack of accountability is unacceptable. Not worth the money!
