Location is good and Tideswell is a lovely small town.

I stayed at this property expecting a restful weekend, especially since it was advertised as having soundproof walls. Unfortunately, that was far from the reality. For two consecutive nights, I was unable to sleep until around 2am due to extremely loud noise coming from the bar area. The noise levels were so intense that even earplugs made no difference. It genuinely felt as though I was staying inside the bar itself rather than in a separate, private room. The lack of proper soundproofing made the experience very stressful and exhausting. Instead of a relaxing break, my weekend turned into a frustrating and sleepless stay. I would strongly suggest that the property either improve its soundproofing or be more honest in its description, as the current situation does not match what is being advertised.

"Lovely friendly pub with rooms, and nice food."

7.0

We liked that it is dog friendly and we were able to bring our two pooches who really enjoyed being in the bar area in the evening in front of an open fire. The staff were really helpful and friendly, the food was good including the breakfast. All in all it was an enjoyable stay.

The rooms are a little dated, but this is not a deal breaker.

"We had a great stay at the Horse and jockey. We would definitely stay again."

The room looked brilliant and was perfectly clean and tidy. The land lord was very welcoming and friendly.

This is a OLD building and as such it has its quirks. The floor and bed are very creaky and you can hear the sounds from the pub below. But this is part of the character of the place.

"Could be a nice place with competent staff and management"

3.0

The location was excellent for me - in a nice village and on the right side for my walking route. The pub itself is a pleasant-looking building and the room was OK, if not exceptional.

As I was on a backpacking route, food was important to me. I checked in advance that evening meals and breakfast were available, and was assured that they were. On arrival, I was told that dinner would be served until eight and paid for breakfast at 8 in the morning. When I came down for dinner, I was told that they had had to close the kitchen early - no explanation and barely an apology, just directed to a restaurant up the street. Annoying, but not disastrous. However, at 8 in the morning when I attempted to go down for breakfast, I found the doors to the pub/ dining area locked, no response to knocking. I tried using the fire escape to approach from the front door, but similarly ineffective. By 8.30 I gave it up as a bad job and set off fuelled only by anger and the few snacks I had in my rucksack. Afterwards, I attempted to contact the pub directly but found the phone number advertised on their website does not work. I also sent a message via Booking.com, but no response. I have yet to receive an apology, let alone a refund for the breakfast that was not provided.
