The Agora Hotel - Small Luxury Hotel of the World - Adults Only

Brilliant location, beautiful interiors, amazing food, very comfy bed, really cool events.

There was inconsistency with the level of service of from staff - quite often, very slow service. There were some staff who were really ‘on it’, and others not so much. Also, they allow non hotel guests in to be by the very small pool area so not particularly peaceful when it’s busy with non hotel guests. Pretty overpriced for what it is.

From our arrival in the beautiful village of Pano Lefkara we knew this trip would be special. The hotel has a unique vibe and incredible staff. We stayed in a grand suite which had a roll top bath in the room. There was also a small balcony overlooking the main street. From the jazz playing on the Robert's radio to the art deco decor, and gorgeous Apothecary toiletries , everything was perfect. Novel, the hotel restaurant ,served some of the most delicious food at dinner. True fine dining, definitely not what you'd expect in a Troodos village setting.

In summary: A little too Instagrammy, and a lot too impersonal for a hotel of this category and price point. It’s a pretty hotel in a pretty town but it’s just missing a few crucial things. The Agora has a lot of potential but it’s not worth going for a few big reasons: Impersonal service: the folks that work here just are very inconsistent, with a few exceptions (Joanna was great! And the Greek/Cypriot hostess at the restaurant). Overall they don’t remember who you are, don’t offer to go out of their way, and don’t make you feel particularly welcome. It’s noticeable in Cyprus, where people are just so hospitable overall. The night check in team just stared at me, told me to park my car “down the street” without much indication, and then didn’t help me with my luggage as I went to my room. It was consistent throughout the stay, in the hotel and at the restaurant. You get a sense that folks are a little “too cool for school”. Problem is it’s a hotel, not a coworking space, and we’re guests not coworkers. Everything was kind of a no. “No you can’t use the pool I think it’s broken”. “No, you can’t have breakfast before 8am (???). “ Rooms: Very basic with Soho House vibes, but in a bad way. Why they don’t have full blackout curtains is a total mystery to me. Even closing the shutters fully lets light in because they are slatted. Then the views are basically of an alley and a trash dumpster. Not luxe. Restaurant: good food but about 50% too expensive for what it is. Suggestions to the hotel: Blackout curtains, literally a 500 euro investment across the hotel in everyone’s future happiness. Not that tough. More local touches, I don’t want to feel like I’m in Los Angeles, I want to feel like I’m in Cyprus. Hospitality training for staff Breakfast before 8am! Come on it’s sort of absurd.

Great boutique hotel. The owners have a great taste and have created a unique place in the mountains of Cyprus. As an avid cyclist myself I really enjoyed being able to hire one of the hotel’s branded FACTOR road bikes, which are super solid. There are some amazing rides in the area.
