The Samling Hotel

We were lead to believe that the restaurant had a Michelin star, but we found it very disappointing. The bedroom had a weird layout (presumably altered at some time) so one couldn’t see the TV from the bed. The staff were friendly, but we won’t be going back.

We've been visiting the Lakes for over 40 years and stayed in lots of hotel up there. So, after reading the impressive reviews of this hotel, we thought we had to try it. WOW. What a place!! The hotel, location, food, the room were all fantastic. The views were amazing. But the staff were another level. All very welcoming, friendly and very helpful, without being over bearing and pretentious. Special thanks to Emma on reception who was brilliant from the start to finish. We had a fantastic holiday here and would definitely recommend it. We will be back!!

From start to finish, exceptional service. Reception staff lovely and Nigel & Veronique made our fine dining experience very special. Lovely to chat to, learn about our wine pairing, made our night even more enjoyable, a real credit to The Samling. Our room Thirlmere was luxurious, the attention to detail was perfect, even down to being able to bring GHD’s to our room (which I had forgot to pack). We will definitely be back to celebrate another special occasion

The staffs were friendly and attentive, room was neat and clean, welled deserved Michelin starred restaurant with view. Pleasure stay for a lovely weekend in the lakes.

Coffee could be better for breakfast

The Samling is a very classy hotel , perched high on a hill overlooking the lake . It’s very small , nowadays they market hotels this size as “ boutique “ for some reason . It’s very calm , the staff are unobtrusive yet attentive and very professional. We stayed mid week the first week of January so it was quiet , but the service was still perfect . Our room was a cottage style property a short walk from reception , it was very well featured and decorated perfectly … you could stay here quite happily for a week . We have been trying to remember the names of the two ladies who looked after us , to no avail , but they were fantastic .. and on duty Wed 8th Jan .. you know who you are .. and thank you ! The sommelier Nigel , who has so much knowledge of wine and spirits could be forgiven if he was aloof and condescending given his skill and history in the field .. but he was absolutely wonderful with my wife and I , directing us towards high class wine with the best value and literally giving us a free masterclass .. we really enjoyed our stay , the hotel is first class , the position is enviable , but we will go back ultimately because of the wonderful staff .. the Samling is a safe bet for you on any visit to the Lakes .

Location and facilities

Great views of Windermere, property clean and has beautiful decor. Staff were fantastic, so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Can’t wait to go back.
