Tião Botelho Guest House

-Alberto went out of his way to make you feel at home and was kind to let my friends use the bathroom when we picked up my luggage -Close to Santa Teresa -Nice terrace with great view -Good amount of space in the bedroom -Kitchen looked practical (I didn't use)

-Was very expensive for what it was - I appreciate this was during carnival -When pressing the flush for the toilet water would spill onto your hand -Despite the fan the room kept a lot of heat in -Host wasn't there when checking in - I was left standing in the alley in the heat with my luggage. I appreciate the host was very apologetic -I would ensure you are clear of your timings when you arrive. -FYI quite a few stairs to the accommodation

The view from the guest house is utterly amazing. The host tried to be very welcoming. WiFi speeds are good and the private rooms are equipped reasonably.

Access to the kitchen was randomly locked on the host's convenience. No mesh on windows to keep mosquitoes out of the room. I don't think I got the Deluxe Double Room that I chose on Booking.com. Almost no soap in the bathroom I had 24/7 access to.

Alberto was an incredibly welcoming and accommodating host. He even allowed me to arrive and check-in at 6am after an overnight flight. The accommodation is best described as a "homestay" and is a much more authentic cultural experience than staying in a hotel. It's within walking distance of many museums and other sights in Santa Teresa, Lapa and Centro. As a solo female traveller, I felt very safe here.

The WiFi did not work very well in the room I was staying in (the one with bunk beds). However, this became an incentive for me to spend more time relaxing in the hammock, where the connection was strong. Other rooms of the house do have a better connection.

Excellent place. Much better than staying in a hotel. Nice and quiet, day and night. There's a well stocked kitchen you can use. A lovely balcony area to relax. The Wi-Fi is good. Everywhere is clean and the host is great. He went out of his way to make me feel at home and even helped me carry my enormous bike box to the taxi rank when I left. Thank you! Price is good too....

A very authentic experience of Rio life. It was relaxing to spend time in the lovely outside areas. The host and his colleague worked hard, especially at keeping the establishment clean. It was close to buses, including one direct to Copacabana.
