Hotel Real Del Monte

It is super close to the town center which is very convenient. Hotel is beautiful and rooms are nice. The town itself is pretty cold at night so I suggest bringing some warm clothes.

If you're traveling by car I suggest to look for parking beforehand. The property correctly states no parking lot and the street parking nearby is usually very busy. Not our case but if you're a light sleeper you can hear the cars from the main road at night since it is a small town and the main road is nearby. So earplugs are suggested.

Location, staff service, comfortable bed, water bottles.

On the second night, we couldn't shower because the water came out cold. And although there was a note posted in the bedroom saying that water can delay a while to get hot, it never did. Also, there's a leak from under the shower floor that makes the flooring out of the bathroom wet, where you step onto as you take your step out of the bathroom. It's some sort of bad design for the flooring that causes this. Unfortunately, many other rooms present the same problem. I was able to check them out since they are kept open when there are no occupants. And I saw the flooring with water damage in all of them. I should mention that the floors are made out of wood. So you can imagine the discomfort of a wet flooring. We also found a live scorpion in the bathroom. Beware!

Probably one of my favorite ever traditional hotels up there with the Stanley in Colorado. A total step back in time. Located right in the heart of el Real and appointed with all the accoutrements you would want out of a deeply retro hotel. Steps to the square and food and everything. Staff were friendly and the balcony looking over the town was amazing. When i bring people back to el Real we will be staying here. Hands down the best property of my two weeks in Mexico.

Just be aware there is VERY hot water available in the shower it just takes a minute to get going but they fully disclose this and hey it’s an old place, it’s part of the charm.
