Hotel Perla

Is a small hotel run by a family business. The kindness of the host and the cleaners of the rooms are the main reason for our recommendation to book this hotel . Also the 15 min drive until Tsarevets Fortress in Veliko Tărnovo

Not a big problem but the bathroom have no delimitation of the bath area so shower can be messy.

The lady who received us was very friendly and the room surpassed our expectations by far. She was happy to let us leave our luggage at the hotel after checkout time until the afternoon. She even gave us local currency for the bus.The location is great for the centre of town, although it has to be said that Gorna Oryahovitza does not offer much apart from bragging rights for having spent a night in a town that very few people have ever heard of. It is, however a great place to stay cheaply and take the no10 bus to Vileka Tarnovo which is really worth a visit.

The town itself is very run down. Public buildings look in serious need of maintenance and the eateries generally don't accept credit cards.

The hotel was in an excellent situation for the town centre and eating places. A short walk took us into the main area where everything was available but although we were close to the centre of the town the hotel is in a very quiet spot. Limited parking is available and we were lucky enough to park within this area both nights but if we couldn’t have parked in the car park there was plenty of on street parking available. The outside of the hotel was very well presented and tidy. The welcome we received from our hosts was excellent, as was the check in process and the instructions about how to get to our room were clear. Our room was large and contained a double bed, a wardrobe, a luggage rack, an unexpected refrigerator which was useful, a tv, air con, and a desk area to work from as well as a huge, extremely comfortable arm chair. The room although large and comfortable did look a little tired in places (particularly the radiator in the bathroom). The bed was very comfortable and we slept well in it, the linen spotless and clean, white towels were supplied. The bathroom was also large and was, as is often the case in Bulgaria, a wet room without a shower cubicle. This wasn’t a problem for us but something to help us get the floor cleared and dry quicker would have been beneficial in my opinion. Plenty of hot water was available at all times and a small range of toiletries was supplied. I would be happy to use this hotel again if I didn’t need strong internet.

Unfortunately one of the reasons I chose this hotel was because it advised that it had internet available throughout the premises and to be fair the password was freely and helpfully given, but the internet was pretty dreadful. I had taken online work with me to do whilst my husband was in the hospital and couldn’t get anything like a good enough signal to work with and when I occasionally did get a signal it kept dropping out. I had to use my phone data to get anything done. We saw another guest also having the same problem so it wasn’t just our room. The curtains were full length and covered the whole window but there was a street light across the road directly opposite the window of our room but the curtains weren’t thick enough to stop the light shining in. We had specified a double bedded room so it is possible this room is the only room with this problem.

Getting a vegan breakfast was possible.
