Property Notes

The Hotel Casona Los Cedros is an excellent choice for exploring the region. Located in the charming village of Espita, it offers an authentic atmosphere that allows you to discover the local culture while being close to several major tourist sites. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your stay: Río Lagartos: This is an excellent destination for observing wildlife, especially pink flamingos. We recommend taking a boat trip to explore the lagoons and mangroves. Be prepared for an outdoor experience, so don't forget to bring appropriate clothing and sunscreen. Chichén Itzá: This iconic archaeological site is a must-see. It's best to leave early in the morning to avoid the crowds and the heat. You'll have plenty of time to take in monuments like the Kukulcán Pyramid and the Temple of the Warriors. Ek Balam: Less well known than Chichén Itzá, Ek Balam is a magnificent site where you can still climb the pyramids. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes to explore the ruins and surrounding jungle. Valladolid: This colonial town is perfect for an evening stroll. You'll find charming restaurants, artisanal stores and picturesque squares. Don't forget to visit the Zaci cenote, located right in the center of town, for a refreshing swim. Casona Los Cedros should offer you a comfortable and welcoming stay, and the village of Espita itself is a pleasant place to relax after your explorations. Don't hesitate to ask the hotel staff for local recommendations - they'll be delighted to help. A deposit may be required at the property.

"Highly Recommend this Beautifully Renovated Boutique Hotel"

10.0

We stayed 3 nights at this beautifully renovated boutique hotel and loved its chill atmosphere, great service, comfort, and food. After our excursions to Ek Balam, Rio Lagartos and Chichen Itza, it was so nice to go back to this peaceful hotel and unwind, dip in the pool or lounge in the hammock on the private terrace outside the room. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. In fact, the food was so good, we ended up having our dinners there too.

It would be nice to have 2 luggage racks in the room. We set our luggage on top of the bench, so we didn't have anywhere to sit in the room besides the bed when the weather didn't permit us to sit outside.

"Parfait"

10.0

"Stunning aesthetic, beautiful pool, sleepy location"

9.0

As other reviews indicate, the decor is simply outstanding. The entire place is like a design magazine, with thoughtful details and a minimal yet beautiful aesthetic. The pool area is a dream, and each night they lit candles and a campfire which really enhanced the mood. The welcome cocktail was a wonderful touch (especially after the long drive to reach the hotel). All food was fantastic, albeit pricey compared to Mexican standards ($150pesos for a bottle of sparkling water!!). We had 3x dinners and breakfasts on-site, and everything was delicious and plentiful, with generous portions.

There are a few key factors in not giving a 10/10 rating: 1) Coffee. It was not good at all, from a nespresso machine (?) or something bland. They could easily switch to drip or french press, and it would make a world of difference (especially given the amazing coffee available in Mexico). 2) WiFi. Patchy in the room, but that's to be expected when so remote. 3) Location. Espita is a sleepy, poor, rural village, with very little happening. It was a 1 hour drive to both Chicken-itza and Valladolid, both via a long and simple road cutting through jungle forest. There are not any other restaurant options in Espita, aside from the competitor hotel across the street (which has similar prices). That said, Espita offered a genuine glimpse into authentic Mexican village life, away from the built-up and touristic atmosphere of Cancun. It's a great option for peaceful relaxation, if you don't mind the longer drive to get there. You 100% need a car if you plan to go.

"Rust en zeer sfeervol boutique hotel met toprestaurant"

10.0

Top service, prachtig en zeer sfeervol ingericht. Ruime kamers. Gastvrijheid en heerlijke keuken. Proficiat aan gans het team. Centrale ligging (Vallodolid, Rio Lagartos) en heel rustig.
